I decided to do a photo shoot of my ageing adult female False Garden Mantid (P. albofimbriata). She is the 1st mantid that I ever raised & I call her 'Gwyneth Paltrow.' When I found her as a nymph, she was bright yellow, which got me thinking about the song 'Yellow' by Coldplay, so I named her after the wife of frontman Chris Martin. You'll notice that she has a small back spot on her left arm where she was bitten by a very nasty katydid. She ate him

Anyway this is Gwyneth's 15 seconds of fame! :D

Smile for the camera.

Cool pictures do you have an interesting story on how you found her???
I was outside taking down the laundry, talking to Olga on the phone, when I saw her. A small bright yellow nymph climbing up the side of my house towards a hot tin roof. I couldn't let her fry, and this was when I just go into mantids, so I grabbed a pool scoop and tried to snatch her in there. Unknowning of their defence tactic, she hurled herself off the wall & landed on the front of my shirt. It was love at first sight :p Olga was on hold for about 5min  Sorry, dear.

The coloration was uncommon so I tried my best to retain it. All throughout her nymph-hood in her enclosure, she had Acacia blossoms to climb on & yellow Dulux paint cards flanking her. It didn't really go to plan, as you can see. But the species can go a lot greener that this.
