I just caught a huge fly measuring about an inch long, and is extremely fat. It looks kind of like a green bottle fly x10. Will it be ok to feed to my 3 in stagmomantis california?

Well I know large fly's can bite, so i guess I just wanted to be sure.

I put it in already, came back, and I can't find it so im guessing its in my mantids belly....Yum!

Dont be daft, flies have a sponge tongue for soaking up liquids :)
unless he cought this little fella:

byt that ain't a problem either ;)

well what about horse fly's, and it isn't a green bottle fly unless its a incredibly huge one, easily 10x the regular size.

its mouth parts looked very similiar to the attached pic of a horse fly also

Update: I guess I never noticed them but yesterday with a bit of trial and error I cought 3 more of them. They were promptly eaten :)

Just thought I'd post a pic of my second biggest mantid eating a small one of these flies. Its still byno means small, it was like 3 1/2 cm if my mind serves me right :p

I know that some bigger flys do bite, I have a few horses and Ive seen flys draw blood on them before.
