Welllll I tried to mate them after she bit off his head :( They did not connect. She really didn't seem to care that his was tied on at all, lol. Today she laid a huge infertile ooth. darn it! What a waste.

How cruel and cold-hearted (the female, not you Sally!) Props to the male.. didn't give up and kept trying even as he was drawing his last breath..

Yes, it was just awful :( I was just hoping his legacy would live on after he got decapitated...worth a try :( (

Sorry to hear that.

Lol... Place the male behind the female when she is calling :p simple as that! And there is already a number of videos
Well, not always quite as simple as that. Sally has had a lot of success breeding mantids.

I've had a stalii female call that grabbed both of my males.

I tried putting my male Valida in with my female the other day. She grabbed onto him but I was able to separate them.

Yes i know.. That's why videos like this exist:

And if it's much less aggressive species than rhombos and stuff such as mantis religiosa and similar species it's almost that simple lol..

You don't need to place the male behind only when the female is calling.

the video of how to mate aggressive mantids doesn't look hard at all. You just distract the female! Otherwise seems easy.

It looks easy because he has a lot of experience. I'm sure the first time you try it it's not going to go a smoothly as the video. Great video by the way, it should come in handy when I try mating my rhombos.

Yea it will deff be handy.. And, if your quick enough to distract the female.. It shouldn't be to hard, though I haven't bred aggressive mantids yet.. Only chilled out ones.

Is T. sinensis aggressive when mating? I am going to attempt to breed them. Just as pets they seem very aggressive.

I got both of my girls bred last year and didn't lose either male, being new to attempting it I am sure it didn't go as smooth as it could have. Now my Budwing on the other hand.. She dropped the cricket and grabbed the poor male, he was ok just a puncture that I put liquid skin on but after that he was all set with trying the poor guy.

Sorry, @I_love_mantids
