So you guys I know got some Idolos from Yen, who else has been raising some of Yen's Idolos? Just want to make sure when I do have some adults ready, we are all taken care of when it comes to having sexed pairs.

Right now I am looking good but just incase some die, mis molt, etc. I want to make sure that I have a back up plan.

Where are you guys at as far as L stages, and count of males to females? I know Chris has a decent amount. And Paul, you got most of Yens stock to grow up, correct? How about you Rick?

I have to check again but I am looking good for myself, I would love to help out any one in this awesome community who might have trouble in the future getting a healthy pair willing to mate etc. let's get things straightened, or atleast somewhat figured out for the time being. ;)

I have four. All L7's. They have one more molt to go. I have had molting issues like many others have mentioned. I was told to cram the cages full of thin twigs which I did and it worked. I have serious doubts about the next molt though.

Yes, this holds true. I have 8 sub-adult idolo's 6 females and 2 males. All are doing good thus

far. I should have my first adults in a couple of weeks. let me where you guys all stand at the end, and we can make arrangements to help each other. Good luck to all! :)

What are you doing different in caging since you're having no issues.

Hi

Just for information: A L7 male is subadult, but a L7 female is presubadult.

Best of luck to all of you.

regards

Please don't misunderstand me! I have also had my fair share of problems with these guys. Infact i only have about half of what i started with. :( I have mainly had molting issues, where my idolo's would molt out just fine, but become weak and die a few days later. I have manged to remedy the problem with more of a food variety, and natural light. One sub-adult male was actully cannibalized by a sub-adult female. Well he was molting to sub-adult, and i guess she took advantage of the situation. Of course there were still plenty of feeders in with them at the time.

My set-ups consists of 12" net cages from livemonarch.com. Two mantids per net cage. They are kept next to a window sill with all natural light. The window is sometimes left open for increased air flow, when the temperature is right. The sun at certain times of the day is directly hitting the cages. I use about 10 sheets of wet bounty paper towel for the bottom to hold high humidity. I remoisten the paper towels every few days. The room temp stays at about 85 to 90F during the day, and at night it is around 75 to 80F. There are plenty of sticks and twigs for them to climb, and cling to. Hope this helps some? :)

Same thing I am doing except for the natural light.

Oh Goody! I am using some 1 gallon fish tanks with 7 watt light bulbs, it keeps it at 85 to 90 or better, they seem to love it, so far , so good, they all stay on top, I have some screen going down one side so when they get down, they can get back up,( I wanted the toy firemen to help them with their ladder truck, but it wouldn't fit in there  ). I did glue a rough twig in there too, but that was earlier today, will have to wait and see how they like it, I only spray them once a day now, it is very humid here and they seem to be doing really good, other than eating, I can get them to eat a moth sometimes, but they really are not gourmet mantis! I only have 6, started with 6 and hope to end with 6. I dont know their age, as I did not pay good attention to the molts, just thanking God that they molt ok. But the boys do look like the are almost adult, will try to take pic tomorrow, it is past my bed time! and they are sleeping too! If I go in there and turn the light on, all the girls will insist on coffee and tv! Then I shall be up all night :(
