Wonderful thread! I'll be blacklighting here again this summer: http://nitro.biosci.arizona.edu/zeeb/butterflies/mothlist.html

I was there a few weeks ago and Arizona is mostly just a bust in April. I did find a bunch of white-lined sphinxes, but when can't you?

Oregon doesn't have a lot of great Saturniids. This is the largest moth I've found this year: http://bugguide.net/node/view/764131
i have a brother in oregon , im trying to get him to get me some neat insect, lol.

Sounds and looks like fun. Wow, the moths were busy on the night that photo was taken!

If you come across any, I'd be interested in some Litaneutria sp., Iris oratoria, and/or roaches. Are there sand roaches in Arizona?

I culture both Texas and Arizona Arenivaga spp. sand roaches.

And actually, that sheet showed a lot of large moths but it can be much more cluttered looking with medium and smaller sized insects than that one appeared to be.

I find Stagmomantis, Yersiniops and Litaneutria in AZ, but the only Iris I've personally found were across the border in California. I sent one of the Litaneutria I got in AZ a few weeks back to Orin for a public bug event recently and would be happy to send some to you if I get more later this summer.

Awesome video! Amazing diversity of insects. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I now plan to follow suit and black light here this summer.

I'll have to buy some sand roaches off you one of these days. I'm assuming care and conditions are similar to Polyphaga aegyptiaca?

Here's to a successful Litaneutria hunt! ;)

dude you can do it in your yard if you have woods, i live in the woods lol. When i black light i also use a 4500k daylight bulb apart from it and i find some weird stuff, you will be supprised what you see. I think i have some new species insects that havent been claimed yet when i do it lol.

Pisaurina mira, nursery web spider...found occupying bee hive(empty) along with paper wasps. Note the distended abdomen; it has since been deflated. She laid an egg sac which she carried ventrally. This spider did not relish captivity—struck at me repeatedly. I released her so that she and her babies could live long and prosper. ;)

The gleaming blue and red exoskeleton of this Florida predatory stink bug caught my attention. Common but still striking.
