One of our 2 S. Limbata ooths hatched out today! (I am at my office so I suppose it is happening still). This ooth was laid Oct 5 by a wildcaught mantis my wife named Zinnia - found on a Zinnia bloom in our back yard. Ooth was incubated at 84 degrees farenheit and humidity c. 60% (moisture foam in bottom of 32 oz deli cup).

At last count there were about 13 nymphs. They are green and about 1/3 to 1/2 inch long. They have long legs and are suuuper fast.

I was beginning to wonder if the ooth was fertile, i guess it was!

You have made me a happy man, Arkanis! I captured (er, adopted) a female on 100608, and she laid her first ooth that evening. I have been seriously beginning to wonder if she was fertilized, but you have given me new hope, at least for the next week or so! I shall put the pot with the two oldest ooths in it on my computer (not the one with the L2 sinensis, the other one) and make encouraging noises to them.

Good luck with the babies!

Congrats, Arkanis... ;) Is that pretty big for newborn size? I know newborn size varies between species... as my Texas Unicorns were much larger at birth than the S. parva newborns. But were these even bigger than the P. chlorophaeas usually are? Just curious... :)

ive got three ooths im expecting to hatch....except i was starting to not expect a hatch. then i checked the calender and realized one was only laid a month and a half ago!

still cant wait till they hatch!!

Ok, fellow S. Limbata incubators!, another S. Limbata ooth is hatching out now - the good news is that two of our 4 wildcaught mantids are definitely fertile! Wow, that is A LOT of nymphs :)

The first limbata ooth hatched out after 2 months, this second one is hatching out after 1 month and 1 week.

The mantids from this second ooth seem remarkably less green than those from the first ooth - wierd.

Cool! Sounds like you've got your hands full.

Keep a lookout for the mottled pinkish-tan ones. They are my favorite color morph! They remind me of the pinkish camo gear I had in the mid-'90s.
