My favorite female Latifah quietly passed away this morning. I checked in on the mantids before taking the kids to school and saw her hanging awkwardly with her abdomen hanging low only holding on with her front four legs. When I returned I removed her from the housing and she was weak, very weak. So I held her for about 30 minutes as she propped her head on to her front legs.
I placed her inside my baseball cap, took her upstairs to the game room which has a southeast facing window. Propped up the middle of my cap so her head was elevated and positioned her so the morning sun was on her face.
After 30 minutes I could tell that she was all but gone, with that I placed her into a jar, then into the freezer.
She produced 4 Ooths and although little in size she was a blast to watch hunt and had a great personality for lack of a better descriptor. I'm guessing that Goliath will probably be next, hopefully she will get one more ooth out before she goes.
I told my kids the mantids were nearing the end of their life cycle and they have already made a little graveyard in the garden...cute.
