Received 10 very healthy Griffin mantis from Serpentarium Surplus & Moonlight Mantids today. All arrived alive and very healthy. Kevin is a great breeder and has been there for me whenever I had any questions! You know you're getting the best when you order from him. Thanks Kevin!

Packing was awesome, communication was good. Will definitely consider business again in the future!

 
Purchased 2 Ghosts (Phyllocrania paradoxa) from Kevin as well as a fruit fly culture. Everything went well, except...handling time was slow (2 weeks), but they arrived alive and well!

Packaging was okay and it survived a beating from the usps! So I can't complain.

Would I recommend him? If you are buying online he wouldn't be my first recommendation, but if you are doing a trade or meet him in person he would be great to buy from.

 
Bought a Double Shield nymph and a deli cup from the Moonlight Mantids online store. Heard/received nothing for two weeks, so I filed a Paypal claim, including a message that I wanted my order shipped the following week or a refund. My order was processed the following Tues (2 days later) and I received my mantis and cup a couple days after that. Although it took longer than I would have liked to complete my order, I must say that his packaging was great and the mantis was a superb specimen. I wouldn't order again through his website, though might consider doing a trade/purchase through the forum, given that transactions with him seem to go much faster that way.

 
Ordered a Popa spurca and Parasphendale affinis with some cups 10 days ago. As our weather is being shifty, I sent a message via Facebook. After 8 days of no communication, I sent a contact us email through the website. It has now been 10 days since order was placed and have received no communication at all. I have filed a claim with PayPal, hoping communication would occur that way. This morning i escalated it to a claim. I do not recommend.

If anything changes, I will edit. As it stands, communication is 0.

Edit to add: November 3rd- refund recieved via PayPal due to case. 0 communication was sent from him.

I found Serpentarium Surplus and Moonlight Mantids via a Google search and after watching some YouTube videos. I placed an order on October 11 and the next day received a pre-shipment status notice from USPS. The payment was processed by PayPal and showed as a shipped order. I should have received my order by Oct 14 but the tracking number never showed the order in "shipped" status. I sent emails, posted Facebook messages, and sent messages via PayPal to Kevin Young and MoonlightMantids but have never received any reply. I finally submitted a claim to PayPal and received a refund. I'm sorry to say I have not yet received any communication from Kevin Young or MoonlightMantids.

I placed an order on a Sunday with moonlight mantids and received an email claiming that they would be shipped that next Monday. I received the tracking number and it read pre-shipment info, on Wednesday of that week i sent an email making sure my package had shipped as i ordered some feeders as well and needed them for other mantids but no response. I sent multiple emails asking what was going on but still received no reply. now on Wednesday at 5ish pm i sent an email asking for a refund but the next day i received notification of my packaged being shipped..... on a Thursday. I received my package this monday after sitting at the post office all weekend with a dead mantis. Will not reorder and do not reccomend, there are much more reliable breeders out there.

I made a purchase from moonlight mantids, I never received the item and never got a response back from the site owner about what was happening with my order after waiting three weeks. So I placed a hold on PayPal and still didn't get a response so I escalated to a claim and only after their time to respond expired did I get my money back. I can't recommend this after my experience. I would need to see more activity on the site if I were ever tempted to try again. 

 
I was a little wary reading some of the feedback here so I decided on making a smaller order of some containers and springtails.  Never had any contact with them about my order for over a week despite reaching out to them.  All things considered with the various feedback locations I've seen for the site I ended up opening a paypal claim and they have sometime left over to potentially resolve the matter before their time to respond expires.  That being said I'll be unlikely to make purchase from them again until they make some changes.

 
After a less than successful transaction attempt a year ago, I decided to give it another shot and make a small buy from Moonlight Mantids/Kevin Young.  Seems to have put up a pretty decent website and facebook page, and was running a pretty good deal.  I purchased a S. lineola, a H. venosa (both L2), nymph container, plus a fruit fly culture.  Order was on my step today (4 business days).  The price was right, it was well packed, nymphs looked great, plus an additional f. fly culture was included.  Previous history/reviews aside, this was a great purchase experience from my perspective. 

 
I received healthy twig, jewel, and giant mantis nymphs from him last week.  They were well packaged, and shipped promptly. This was a very positive experience.   

In his recent YouTube video, Kevin discusses that he has just hired someone to help with shipping instead of doing it all himself.   

 
I got 3 mantis's a Budwing, a ghost and a griffee mantis'. All 3 were awesome even got the meet him he's a very nice young man.

I ordered a trio off of Kevin and only received one mantis. He shipped it on a holiday weekday and was in shipping for 5 days.

They reply to all my emails buy when i emailed them saying the order was incorrect they completely ignored me. 

The entire day they ignored my emails, i used my other email to test if they were actually ignoring me, they answered right away, proving they were ignoring my emails, I called PayPal and managed to get a claim sent out. The funny thing is, later after the claim they sent me a email saying sorry. 

This is just proof to show they don’t care about customers, customer satisfaction is deffinelty not with them, all they care about is the money!

Its been a while since my order. The trio i ordered (one female two males) ended up being all females. 

This will be my last time ordering and trading from him. Hes not reliable at all and his customer service is completely unacceptable. He messaged me a while ago (for my replacements) to buy them off of him. theres no way i would ever pay for a company's mistake.

I have had an off-experience with Kevin

a few weeks ago I sold him some young axolotls. they went out and he got them fine. then he asked if i had more, which I do. So i asked if we could trade some axies for a few mantises I saw he had in stock on his site. he agreed and though my shipping of the axies was a few days delayed due to a holiday and a snow storm that shut the whole damn state about (which I alerted him of and he was fine with it) i sent him 60ish young axolotls, provided tracking, and was told he was soon to ship my stuff

then he sends a message saying his wife had a baby and he's busy. I have no way of verifying this "excuse" for a lack of communication and while it's possible his wife was pregnant without knowing it, it would've been courteous for him to say "hey im expecting a baby this week i may be off the grid"

that being said, he is still responsible for holding up his end of the bargain. how hard is it to throw a few nymphs in a box and ship them to me? it takes a half hour. i want to be understanding but i dont want to be taken for a fool. is he dropping his job and his whole social life too since his wife popped? give me a break

i have sent him a series of messages and emails asking for a general update since my stuff hasnt come in yet and have gotten no response. this guy isnt particularly reliable clearly

 
I wish my experience was better.  Kevin's youtube videos is what reintroduced me and motivated me to get into this.  After hours and hours spent watching his videos and researching, i placed my order and anxiously awaited my manids arrival.  I ordered a giant rainforest, giant african, and hydei flies.  A week or so went by and I ordered 2 ghosts from a different breeder, excellent communication and they arrived quickly, plus one!  Waited a few more weeks, emailed kevin again and asked for an update.  Days later received an email stating i could expect my order that week.  Waited and watched the mailbox, no mantids.  Emailed again, and days later received a response i could expect a tracking number soon.  No tracking number.  Ordered from another breeder, excellent communication and all arrived as expected, quickly.  Order has been cancelled from moonlight matids.  I submitted my order may 29th, as of yesterday July 10th, not even a tracking number.  I have ordered and received healthy mantids from 2 different breeders without issue since placing my order with Moonlight Mantids.  I am sad and disappointed, but I cannot recommend this breeder.
