the ooth is about an inch & a half long..?

this is where i'm housing her & that's exactly where the ooth is located..

The ooth must harden for a day or 2 first, then you could try to razor it off, but you could just leave it and remove her in 3 weeks so she doesn't eat them.

after that, when will they be ready to hatch?

do i have to wait till spring??

The ooth will do fine in there but you may want to move it into a large 80 oz deli cup. Otherwise you will have a very difficult time feeding the nymphs, especially since fruit flies will fit through that screen. Should come off of plastic fairly easily. Just let it dry for a day or 2 to be safe.

Attach it to the inside of the lid. Mist in the cup every morning. I also mist again at night.

No you won't need to wait till spring, just a month or 2, misting it every other day will help, if too wet for to long it can mold inside. As it has been noted a new contianer would make life easier on you.

alright, will do! thanks for the info.

but, exactly how long does it take for an ooth to hatch after being layed?

i'm searching & searching, but, i can't find anything on it.

I never had this species so I don't know. Most species average around 40 days incubation but some US species require a diapause, or cool period, that lasts over the winter months. I'm sure someone on the forum has experience with the species and can give you direct answers.

so, i found some information on this website called arachnoboards..

there was a thread called "more mantid questions" & two people said that they do need a cooling period.

"The only mantids I can think of that need a cooling period are Mantis religiosa(sp?) and Stagmomantis carolina"

but, they never stated how long the cooling period was & where to cool it? like, freezer or fridge??

do you know, how long would the cooling period be? or, does it vary with different species??

Since it's local you could put it in a container and keep it on your porch through the winter and bring it in to hatch in spring. That would be their natural cycle anyway. Or you could chance it and keep it indoors all winter. Not sure it will hatch but may hatch earlier that way. Someone who knows for sure will chime in and set us straight.

All the information you need is right here on this site. Remove it like was mentioned to a proper container but wait at least a week for it to fully dry. Those are pretty sturdy and it should come right off. They don't need a cold period but if you want to delay hatching that is a way to do it. It should hatch in 6-8 weeks.
