She's calling, but no one is picking up...

Not really looking for an answer or anything I just thought I'd share some thoughts.  I always feel bad when a female mantis "calls" but you know they will not be mated.  Not that they are yearning to mate and produce offspring, but it makes me a little sad that they cannot complete their natural cycle (assuming that a high percentage of females mate when ready).  I have a giant rain forest mantis and she has been eating real good and she's calling.  During the day actually which was how I saw it, but I'm not gonna breed her because she's not native to my area so I can't release the babies.  The best I can do is just feed her the good stuff!

I feel ya. My first try with Miomantis paykulli, I recieved two females, so no mating. I have tried to provide companionship to my single mantids by putting videos of other peoples mantids on a screen and videos of them mating if possible. They seem to watch with interest, but I'm not sure if it is really appreciated or just a tease..

You can still breed and sell/give away the offspring. I figure the propagation of those mantids already in culture relieves  pressure on wild populations due to there not be so much a demand to collect them.

Hmm, I honestly never thought about it that way.  Maybe I will try to mate her and see what happens.

I feel now the same. I see Hunter calling for her mate, but there is no male.
