What about "this side up"?
There are no guarantees of box orientation and they will tell you that if you try it.

I just shipped a box. Never have any trouble until I get stuck with the most ignorant employee at my local post office. When I said fragile she asked what it was and I told her feeder insects. She said they can't ship them. I told her I do it every week so she asked someone about it, wrote "fruit flies" on the box and said she put it in a section with bees and checkens.

I've found the fewer words exchanged when shipping the better.

I have a question you may be can answer to me.

GreenOasis has written that

It is not allowed to ship ANY live animal/plant/seed or animal parts internationally.

I have tried to buy some ooths from people in this forum. And they always say, no only shipping inside US.

They exlained it that they got trouble with the customs.

Do they mean with an animal part an ooth?

Is there really a problem to send an ooth outside US?

Or do they mean with animal parts more parts of a dead animal to avoid for example communicable disease?
Where do I even start? You can't ship anything live outside the US without lying on the customs form. Period.

I had put fragile sticker on it and they asked what was in it. (express shipping and fragile, and special handling) I told them they were jewelry and cookies. That it needs to be there fast. They gave me with their funny look! LOL. I sent three chinese mantis to hawaii for my brother in law. He was overjoyed with his new pets. He's in navy of course. The three chinese mantis died happily due to old age. I'll keep in mind to pay less shipping if i put only fragile sticker in future... :(

Same reason UK forum doesn't ship to US. You could end up fined or in jail. No thank you.

Besides that...I know the people at the post office I go to for work. I've been going for years and I know most of the people. They are cool with everything. Well, at least they know what I'm doing and don't give me a hassle. I will bring in mantids and show them my newest additions. I never put anything on the box except the address label and tracking label. When they ask if I'm sending anything fragile, perishable, and whatever else they ask these days, I just say no. But, when I get to the window I will usually say that I'm shipping some "babies". They just smile. :D I know all of them by name and wait in line just to see them when it's busy. I almost converted one of them. She was really interested until I said I could bring her some.

Well, I can't say all, but most. I re-read that and was going to edit it. I like the girls. Vanessa, Luisa, Eula, and Clarisa. Luisa is a sassy Samoan and one of my faves.

In my limited experience with the P.O. (when compared to Rebecca and Yen) I have made friends with the clerks at the small P.O. from which I ship from time to time. Most of the clerks know that I ship live insects and even Mantids and they stamp the package fragile. They have also looked up the word mantid on the chart of prohibited goods for mailing and have satifsied themselves that it is ok. I have had very little trouble in the U.S. When shipping oothecae to foreign destinations, it is not advised to be clear at all as to what you are sending. When I received a certain Coleopteran larvae from Asia it was covered in the package with various used plastic items which were named on the customs paperwork as the contents.
I agree, I have same experience.

Most of the people at the Post Office are lazy. I mean really lazy! Not getting up to get tape, stamps etc. There was this one pretty girl but I haven't seen her sense ;) :)

U guys are a hoot! You do know they do strip searches when U get a visitor in jail! :tt2: and it is not as much fun as one would imagine! :helpsmilie:

Does anybody know a prisoner that would like a visitor? I wouldn't mind the search...It would be the most action I've gotten in a long time.

I just shipped 2 packages and I wrote 'FRAGILE' all over the box. But the post office lady just said. "Exprees or Priority"... I dont think they care if you right fragile everywhere, to them a box is a box. Even if there are delicate beings inside :)

Hmm. We'll have to come up with totally new and creative labels that postal workers will notice. Testicles inside. No man would want to damage that.
