Shipping with cold packs. Best options?

Hello all, 

With summer coming along, I wanted to ask you all about your experiences with cold packs. I figured out the heat packs, but there are too many options for cold packs, and I cannot even find information about how long they even last! I tried to search the forum earlier to find a previous post about this, but couldn't find too much information.

Here are the options I've seen:

• 8 oz gel pack
  
• 4 oz gel pack
  
• 2 oz dry gel pack
  
• 3 oz dry gel pack
  
• 8 oz dry gel pack
  
• Phase 22
  

Here are the questions I have related to each:

1. How do I know what size I should use for what size box?
   My favorite shipping boxes are Priority mail 7" x 7" x 6" - what size cool pack is appropriate for this box?
   
2. How long does each type of cool pack keep a package cool?
   
3. How does Phase 22 work? When should I use this?
   
4. Is insulated box a requirement when using cold packs?
   
5. Any other recommendations or experiences you may have had related to cold packs.

I have ordered polar ice packs from Rebecca @ mantidplace I got a couple of the small and large... but I don't ship in weather that is over 90 degrees.. usually if you wait a week the weather breaks... I think I have only shipped 6 packages with icepack in the years I have been shipping.. mantis like the heat, so in most of the summers they like the temp.. I just make sure I give them a good water spritz before they leave.. and make sure they get water as soon as they arrive...
