Hi, I've been trying to culture D. hydei without buying anything extra. So I placed old mashed strawberries, apple, and apple cider + redwine vinegar in a small jar. Added about 50 fruitflies and wala, maggots.

This was last week. Now they've eclosed(?) in mass. I added some more vinegar and watermelon to keep it going. I hope it lasts longer.

Any tips for speeding up growth? And I haven't fed any of the off, because I want them to breed. I know they're supposed to reproduce like crazy, but just being cautious.

tHE BREWERS Yeast seems to hasten it along, as it warms up the container. But doesn't hurt to add some potatoe or oatmeal, but u seem to be doing fine with it.
