Yes i remember that as well. I still have an adult female who is well over a year old.

They are a fairly simple species to keep. I am surprised they are not more common. I did never breed them so that could be the sticking point.
Yeah i didn't 'cook' this species with high temp that might be the reason why. I was flooded wiith this species back then and it took up too much space. A species with really long legs!

Bummer about losing any Violins!

Do you need any Mesopteryx alata? I still have plenty of them. I've made no effort to see if I can determine the sex though. After seeing your photo, I'm going to mist mine again before going to bed.

I love the eyes on the Kongobatha diademata.

Ya, violins need lots of space and height to molt properly. I misted mine lightly once a day before going to bed and didnt lose any.

I kept mine dry, in a 12" net cube, from L3 to adult haha (4 of them) Not a single mismolt :D

So really, guess its just luck of the draw, or maybe the atmosphere of my room were a bit more humid than that of Yen's? Who knows lol

Yen are you keeping them communally, because they both seemed to have mismolted the same way? So what i am getting at is that maybe they were knocked off by others during the process.

gongies actually dont need that high humidity

mine molted fine at 45% or so
That can still take a bit of work depending where you are in the world. Right now in Canada its incredibly cold and the air incredibly dry. To keep my room warm enough I use a heater which lowers the humidity even more. I mist my enclosures and mantids once or twice a day, and I make sure its good and wet, and I also have a separate humidifier going, and I still get the occasional foot stuck in a molt because its too dry.

Depending on the stock most gongys are native to the desert. They also have to survive the dry season. I sprayed my gongys once or twice. After one of the times it got sick.

Thanks Tammy I still have some M alata available so i don't need more at the moment. I am not good at sexing this species either. Malakyoma has found a way to sex this species in nymph stage. Yeah bummer.... fortunately they were the only two mismolted so far.

Yeah i think the problem was i had a heat lamp too close to the net when they molt. Out of the 5 molted that day 2 didn't make it. I am always keeping the violin together, until subadult when males and females are separated.
