Hello,
I apologize if this is the wrong area for this post. I recently had a wild caught mantis in northern Utah. Before passing, she laid 3 Oothecae. I’m thinking it’s an Arizona Mantis, but any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

I just glance at it and maybe it is Mantis religiosa since you are from the Western part of US? Doesn't look like Chinese mantis ooth.

Thanks. Ya, I don’t think Chinese. I’ve been torn between European, Carolina and Arizona? After what you said, I can def see it being a Mantis religiosa. Hopefully some of the ooth do well, and I’ll figure it out.

I think she’s a European mantis! Does she have the black dot on both raptorial arms? I’ve attached a screenshot that may help with identification.

Yup. Now that I see the photos of the mother, she is almost certainly a European mantis! Although the European mantis is native to South Korea where I grew up, I have yet to see one in person. I read that the European mantis is limited to the southern portion of South Korea, so could be why I wasn't finding them where I was in Daejeon of central South Korea. Although I have been wondering whether the European mantis is limited to coastal areas of Korea rather than simply the south. Since European mantis does live in Russian Far East farther north near North Korean border.

Interesting, thank you. I see them pretty regularly out here in the late summer/fall. I’m in Layton, Utah. It’s a sort of high desert climate almost. Unfortunately, I always find them late season, and they pass a few months later. I’m hopeful for these ooths to hatch well, and keep a coupe for the entire lifespan etc.

I bet there’s some pretty cool species in Korea to see.
