GMM - Get More Mantids

I have now reserved a female orchid mantis from a local reptile shop. She'll be available in about three weeks.

I've heard they are an 'intermediate' species but if they're anything like Manny and Maude, she shouldn't be any trouble.

I'm really looking forward to her arrival and will obviously post some photos when she does.

I've also hear that orchids are not considered a beginner species, but I got mine not long after I got into the hobby and I've found him pretty easy to care for. Good luck with your new baby!

Well, here she is - Myrtle.



I have to say she's about as brutal as Maude when it comes to hunting. She brought down a bluebottle her size and ate half of it on the first day we had her.

Her first molt with us went fine, so we're feeding her up. I bought some nice fake white and purple orchids today for her bigger habitat.
