The ants and the bumble bee’s bum: more macro photography of ants

OK, I am exploiting some literary license—bees don’t have a bum after all—but I just couldn’t resist! The item in question is actually the abdomen of a bumble bee; and the photo below is one of a baker’s dozen of pics of western thatching ants I posted on my blog last night.

Nice photo! I suppose I have a very similar species in my yard, not too far down the coast from you. I caught a queen of this species or one similar looking, two days ago. (Are those the same species in your bathroom on the blog?) I'm sending my queen off to a member here who will appreciate her.
