what do you feed the 1st instar nymphs? ive heard the nymphs are tiny.

are they communal?

do they have a high survivial rate?

Mine just died. I do not think they are parthenogenic though. I can't imagine what the nymphs eat. My adult ate fruit flies and even the large ones were pretty big for it.

Mine was about 5. Problem is their front legs. The grasping part is very, very tiny.

Mine ate melanogasters for quite a while, then D. hydei. They weren't as large as I thought they'd be... kind of small to medium in my opinion. Also, I didn't find them too exciting, but that's just my opinion also. I kept them all communnally, but there were losses... so no, they are not communal.

I like the one I had. Blends in amazingly with dry grass. I tried to get some pics of the front leg. Mine is on the pinning board so it didn't come out that great.

I would not be worried about their ability to catch prey. Their raptorial arms are very tiny, but L1 nymphs han handle medium sized D. melanogaster with ease. Adult females can unleash quite a whoopage, and don't even seem to struggle.

I'd save some D. hydei for adult males though, they are kinda docile.

My female wouldn't even try a fly. D hydei was all she ever ate. D hydei is a good size for them but it seems they can take larger.

Yeah, they do. But males live only 3-4 weeks.

i got told the females lay every 4 days so i suppose thats not too bad then
