@Lalaland Nice very interesting, and a unusual looking pet for sure. :)

Years ago I use to keep various freshwater fish mollies, platies, gouramis, fancy goldfish, and several other various species and many "tank cleaners". Fish wise my favorite was probably the Lionhead goldfish; however, me and my wife traded out of fish and got into keeping ACF African Clawed Frog (Xenopus Laevis) and ADF African Dwarf Frogs (Hymenochirus boettgeri).

The ADF was our favorite fish tank pets and we even managed to breed them with the help of small duckweed (Lemna minor), which is (perhaps was?) a very uncommon/rare occurrence in the hobby.

Besides the duckweed we had a sponge filter to keep the water calm, but clean especially with water changes. ;) The duckweed allowed the little tadpoles access to hide from the parents, and they would eat the duckweed roots and whatever else they found. They grew up to adults and we were in the process of a 2nd generation from those babies when we moved and were forced to sell them off to a local keeper.

My wife no longer wants to keep them, or will allow me to either, as we did manage to keep the parent ADF's after the move but they died shortly afterwards. I guess she was too attached and time still hasn't mended that.

I saw some of the African claw frogs recently they're pretty interesting creatures for sure. I'm sure in time she will allow you to reopen the hobby possibly she must be quite a creature of sentiment :)! I am sentimental but I don't normally let past pet losses affect future ones except for positively ! I wish I could post a pic of my triops they are very unique creatures! Also MR MANTIS MOLTED WHILE I WAS SLEEPING AND HE HAS NO MISMOLTS I AM SO HAPPY he is growing and thriving I love it. I also enjoy butterfly telescope goldfish (I believe that is their name).

Even if she doesn't I'm in no hurry as I have too many pets now. ;) They were great though, and some would like to swim into our hands to have their bellies rubbed.

You could always upload your photos to a image host like PostImage.io, Flickr, PhotoBucket, or even a link to another site like Facebook, a blog, or something too. It would be interesting to see them for sure.

Nice, glad to hear he molted without incident. :D

Yes, there is a butterfly telescope goldfish, see the photo here. Kind of funny you mention that as my wife's favorite fish was the Black Moor goldfish, and she even had a large tank setup full of them (I teased her it looked like a store display of them for sale). :)

I do keep quite some tropical fish. I am setting up an aquaponics system (both for interest and school project) and I am thinking of goldfish or catfish to stock.

That's really cool @KevinsWither I dont know if I will ever own any fish but i have been thinking about setting up a live freshwater plant tank and then getting some aquatic insects from bugs in cyber space. I also want a Giant African millipede and a florida tailless whip spider so I have a few aspirations.

I understand the too many pets I have a few outdoor pets 4 cats 3 horses but once my cats were not spayed and there were 21 cats and kittens  :/ lesson learned lol I only one indoor pet a dog named Jake (Australian shepherd) plus my room pets as I call them. I also rearranged the items from my anchored wall shelf's put them elsewhere so that I can have more space for room pets lol @CosbyArt

Sounds like you do know about that lol. :D

Besides my mantids, arachnids, and related I have three indoor cats (Smokey, Sissy, Stormie) and one little black Shih-Tzu named Shelly. ;) All of which are actually rescues from the animal shelter or friends/family.

Here is Shelly under my desk napping in her bed surrounded by some of her toys. :D

She's so cute!!! Jake takes all of the squeakers out of his toys (don't know why) he is a very weird unique dog I could honestly have a whole blog dedicated to him and his weirdness he is one of a kind

Thanks, she is my little girl. :D

So far in the 7 years we have had her she has only destroyed one squeaker so far (and that was after a few years of play). Jake sounds like a feisty little one (or a big 'ol dog) then lol. My parents had a Chihuahua that would destroy a new toy in under 2 minutes, and would hide them in her outside doggie door ramp so no one but her could touch them. ;)

Jake is half mini Aussie and half full lol I call him a medium. He thinks he is a person and he only eats one piece of food at a time. He will eat any lip balm you have. He is one of few dogs that can smile. He enjoys dill pickles he will eat a whole one by taking little bites using his front teeth it's quite amusing. He chases bikers and runners. We have recieved complaints about his chasing from a lady in the area named Karen (who must have a stick up her rear) we live in a very hilly area so it is more likely that Karen would get hit by a car that couldn't see her than wreck because of my dog she needs to get her priorities straight. Sorry rant over lol

Jake is quite the character and eating the pickle must be really amusing to see. :D

So far, like Karen or not, she hasn't at least went the legal route as she would win and you would be fined and can lose Jake (depending on circumstances and the number of times it occurs). :(

I know many runners in my area carry mace/pepper spray for loose dogs (with a few admitting to stun guns; although, for humans are even more effective on a animal), and any legal problems always result with no charges as the person was protecting themselves from a loose animal (see below). So at least she hasn't thought of that yet either.

For your and Jake's welfare I did a bit of searching on loose dogs and found some information you should know. Indiana has a statewide law on a loose dog not on the owners property, and serve dog bite laws (even for the first time ever). Here is the law on a loose dog...

Indiana DOES have a "reasonable control" statute, IC 15-20-1-4, as added by P.L.2-2008, SEC.11. See http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/incode/15/20/1/15-20-1-4 Subsection (c) says "An owner of a dog commits a Class D infraction if the owner of the dog allows the dog to stray beyond the owner's premises, unless the dog is under the reasonable control of an individual or the dog is engaged in lawful hunting and accompanied by the owner or a custodian of the dog.
I would urge you, for both your and Jake's safety, to put a stop to it before it escalates.

We are aware of the laws and know the risks but my parents try to contain him in the summer and spring we are looking into getting an invisible electric fence because his chasing cannot be controlled by anything other than a leash which can get bothersome to try to get him to go to the bathroom while on a leash he usually will not thank you for the information ! @CosbyArt

Please be aware   If Jake does get out, He for sure will not come back thru.  Good training with the new containment system and supervision outside for the first few weeks or so should do wonders to prevent this.  LOL just passing on what I learned along the way.
