This was her reaction to a meal worm! :D

She ended up eating it anyway... after she calmed down.

Great images. I especially love the last two portraits. Amazing detail.

My Texas Unicorn gals love mealworms.
Thanks! I especially like the last one. I think I'm finally getting the hang of my flash unit. I'm learning to back it off so the highlights don't blow out. All of these were taken with the flash as the only strong light source. She was on a branch I have sticking off the rack I use for net cages so surprisingly crisp considering I had nothing to lean on. All but the first are 2 photos stacked. Too much green in the second one. I'll have to color balance it again.

She loves meal worms too which is why it was so funny she reacted this way. She just kept going with it for a good 10 minutes.

She is so fat!
Yeah, she's laid close to 10 ooths. Too bad they are hatching very few nymphs. Only 6 total from the first 3 ooths.

Sorry to hear about the hatch rates. We need new stock in the US. YEN!!!!

Man, I think the last two shots are your "trademark" shot. Beautiful!
Thanks! I agree. The last 2 are my favorites. It's funny but in the last shot her horns look like these Japanese baked wasabi treats I've been into lately. I'll have to start calling them Unicorn Horns. :D

I can't say it's the stock for sure. Unicorns are just tricky. I haven't had much luck breeding them. You win some, you lose some.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th shots are truly amazing, some of the best I've ever seen from you(or anyone for that matter)!

I got my stock from Yen last summer. Two of my original females are slowing down now. One of them appears to be eggbound, though she did lay some fertile ooths. Like Precarious, one of my females laid ooths with a low hatch rate. But another female has produced ooths with 30 - 45 nymphs. My oldest offspring are now pre and sub adults, while the youngest are just molting to L2.

Fkin amazing pictures! :)

What type of cam do you use?

Thanks!

I have the Canon T2i with Macro Twin Lite MT-24EX flash. I used the EF 100mm 1:2.8 USM for the first photo and the MP-E 65mm macro lens for the rest.

They are each two photos manually stacked in Photoshop CS4, except the first which is a single photo. I used the settings 1/100, f13, ISO 200 for all.
