Violins - Communal, but during mating?

Violins are communal and not cannibalistic, but does this even apply to the female eating the male while enclosed? I've also read that even though they are communal, that there are still "incidents". How common would it be that Violins living together would injure each other (without being overcrowded?)

Oh ok, good thing I asked. I'll be sure to separate the females.

I'm assuming that this wouldn't need to be done until sub-adult to adult?

 
As long as you keep subs relatively well fed, there shouldn't be any problems. Matings can be aggressive so keep both well fed before an attempt.
