Whooohoo!! I put them together in one of Hibiscus's large nymph containers. They started on opposite sides. I was so nervous for the boy because he's 1/3 smaller than her. I did feed her crickets until she just started ignoring them. I think she tried to make an ooth because their is a trail of brown substance on the lid of her container. That's when I figured she must be ready. They are Acromantis Formosana

So, there they are.. opposite side of the bucket/container. Being a guy... I figured he would be approaching her and trying to jump on it like those perverts on the dance floors at night clubs. Nope, she approached him which made me way more scared for him! Well, then I nearly popped the container open because she kept throwing her raptor arms at him and it looked like an attack but I thought "if she wants to eat him, she'll do more than just swat at him". So, she inched closer and closer.. tapping her hind leg on the lid of the container. Was she prowling for the kill or purring for some love?

That's when it happened!

He suddenly took off running for her backside. At first, he was facing the wrong way lol, but he stuck his face near her butt, realized he had it wrong, turned around, climbed up on her back and he's been there for 10 minutes now. She slowly moves her raptor arms all funny-like and sometimes they both shake/vibrate lol. Totally hot! I'm watching them all day.

Should I wait an hour and force him off of her? What should I do? Just let them go? I'm not too scared of loosing him, I have 2 other adult males and the one who's all up on the booty too.

   Good going, Lectric!!! ;) Don't forcibly remove him... I did that once and caused him to puncture her abdomen by trying to resist and hold on. And do contain yourself... lol! ;) :p

Who da man?! Had me laughin out loud! U r funny... hope the neighbors arent watching you!

They usually do jump on the females backwards, thats how it is done! Dont really know why, just know that it is! ps excuse the poor smiley!

Hahaha it was so funny reading your post

This is a really good thread for us that are new to this, new things to learn that the more experiencd one maby don´t mention, had no idea that the males jump on backwards

Congrats!!! these were really easy little dudes to mate for me as well. No problems at all until the very last mating when she obviously got really tired of him jumping her bones and shredded him to death. He would mate with her every chance he go chasing her all around the roo or tank. She'd get annoyed and swat at him from time to time.but he just kept on coming and one evening after being connected for maybe 12 hrs. I left them for maybe half an hour to return to find his entire body totally shredded half a head with antennae still flashing whole body parts scattered about the bottom of the tank and it was a huge tank for how small they were so e had plenty of room to get away. the shredding had to occur while he was dismounting or even she just turned and grabbed him and totaled him.

Don't remove him. You're brave leaving them in a container together. I only do that if I can afford to lose the male otherwise they are loose in the room so he can escape. Don't try to watch them because mantids often mate for many hours. That dark stain on the enclosure is diarrhea, keep an eye on that it doesn't get worse or continue.

Yea and sometimes if you are in the room when they decide to mate, you will hear quite a ruckus! The will fly over or jump on her and a lot of times they will struggle together while she tries to remove him, but most times he will get on her backwards first and as soon as she settles down he will turn around. Maybe it is a protective measure, cause it is hard to hold onto a wing and his head isn't sticking up where she can grab it. And they say boys are stupid :p ps excuse the poor smiley

Males often jump on backwards before turning around. I believe they do it on purpose to protect the head.
