Hi all,

I'm from Brazil and new in the forum and mantids.

I caught a wild mantid to two weeks , it fattened on these two weeksago and today it placed an eggcase.

What is the likelihood that Eggcase be fertile?

Hi,

Thank you for the answer.

This was the imagined.

Now the eggcase is twice the size of which shows the picture.

I think the likelihood is great because the abdomen seeing her now that it has just drop the whole eggcase it is tiny compared to two weeks ago, but ...

As you say.

Who can be sure?

I will put the eggcase in a right position to wait 6 months to see what happens.

The eggcase has to be placed in an almost vertical position?

People say a wild caught adult female will almost always be fertile.

I've only ever caught one adult female and its Oothecae were not fertile.

Just treat it as if it were and wait.

Thanks acerbity!

I was very lucky to be at home and see the mantid put the eggcase.

Look at the pictures!

Making the eggcase

I took the cricket as soon as I made this picture

The food could turn the predator!

This is the mantis you are looking for an ID of! The eggcase will probably hatch 6 to 8 weeks from her laying it, and more than likely it is fertile. If she lays another one, I would love to purchase it off of you. I know it may not be fertile, but will be fun to have and find out what it is, Christian will probably know what it is and will tell us when he see's the post. ;)

Oh yea, don't forget to go to the Introduction section and tell us about yourself! Welcome

Hello hibiscusmile,

Thank you for the answer!

Be weeks, not months then! Great, I had read somewhere that were 3 to 6 months to hatch!

Unfortunately I have promised to send a next eggcase (if lays) to another person, but no problem if there lays a third oots I sent to you!

I am going to the another topic to see if the Christian scribbled on Id!

Thank you for welcoming!

I thirnk, the text that I read is wrong because it was well on generic mantids!

was generally not on particular species!

What is the average time it takes to hatch? 6 to 8 weeks?
