I woke up this morning and found this dried brownish fluid running down the side of my mantis's enclosure. What is it? Could it be puke? I read stories on here about mantis puke and it sounds pretty serious. If it helps, I fed her a roach I found last night, but before that mostly all she had eaten was crickets.

She has been acting rather lethargic and listless lately, but she has also been laying a lot of ooths.

There were some brown specs in one of my mantid enclosures today too :( I hope its nothing to worry about. Mine has much less than that but she's acting lethargic as well. She's also never been mated and hasn't laid yet. I hope someone can answer your question.

Vomit or liquid feces. Might try to see which end it is coming from. Best to withold food for a few days. It seems to maybe be caused by a bad food source.

It must be the roach because I have been feeding her the same crickets for awhile and have had no problems. She took a few bites out of the roach and threw it down. I will withhold food for a few days and continue to monitor her behavior though, thank you for the advice.

Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse and she is now dying. Thank you for your replies however.

It is really not that uncommon to see that and then have the mantis decline. Disinfect everything before getting more.

I'm sorry for your "eventual" loss. How old was your specimen? This may have been a natural process of health decline due to age.

She was a fully grown adult, so it was just her time. Not sure of her exact age, I caught her about 2 months ago.

She died some time during the night last night. She was barely alive when I went to bed, so I put her on her back on a towel and put a stick over her so she could think she was hanging, and let her sleep on my nightstand near the heater so she could stay warm. She was gone when I woke up this morning.
