hey all

i was just wondering, what species of praying mantids would you find in texas? as my dad lives there and has said that he would send over some ooths :p

There's a lot more than that in Texas. Yen probably knows best so I'll leave this one to him.

Texas mantids

Texas unicorn mantid Phyllovates chlorophaea

Brunner's mantid Brunneria borealis

Minor ground mantid Litaneutra minor

Grass-like mantid Thesprotia graminis

Scudder's mantid Oligonicella scudderi

Carolina mantis Stegmomantis carolina

California mantis Stegmomantis californica

Bordered mantis Stegmomantis limbata

European mantis Mantis religiosa (likely)

Chinese mantis Tenodera aridifolia (likely)

Yersin's ground mantid Yersiniops sophronicum (possible)

i agree with Mike's list. Oddly, i have never seen a live European mantis here, but Texas is a huge state (5 times the size of England), and the northern part experience freeze and snow during winter, so likely European mantis exist there. I am sure there are more species you can find in Texas, the only problem is they are always elusive and difficult to locate. and many species from Mexico can easily cross the long border line between Texas and Mexico, Oligonicella mexicana has also been found in Southern part of Texas.
