The females are pretty long lived... like 3 to even 6 months or so as adult. I'm guessing, as I can't remember exactly how long mine lived. And I've had other people tell me theirs lived even longer. Maybe Hypoponera will come in and comment.... I think he had one (at least) who lived quite long! :)

PS... He keeps his at lower temps than some, which may account for longer life span. ;)

i can't remember how long shes been adult for :( i just know that shes nearly 10 month old haha.

look what i just found on wikipedia!

'P. paradoxa oothecae can hatch out up to three dozen young.[6] Nymphs of this species are dark colored and use ant mimicry as a defense.[7] They can live up to two years.'

is this true  2 years?!

I just had an adult femlae die last week. She made one year. She was deffinetly one of longest lived mantids i have ever owned. If you keep them cooler they may last a little longer. Katnapper, i take it Paula's passed on?

ah cool :)

i reck she'll make it a year. she doesnt seem weak or anything and is as lively as ever

I think that female was easily pushing a year old. She was an adult for 8 or 9 months. She was kept at only 75-80F. My bug room has heating issues!

I just went back and checked. That female was hatched late May to early June of 2008. So about a full year life span.

Ya, Paul... sweet girlie Paula died March 27th. :( I thought about writing you, then time passed and it got away from me. She may not have lived as long as some, but she had a good and interesting life! ;)

(Paula was born in New Mexico, lived in New York for a while, then moved to Illinois... where she raised a family that went lots of different places, lol!) ^_^

Wow! 10 months is not bad. She was one of my favorite mantids. Well at least I'm able to enjoy some of her offspring :) .

My last female lived to be right at a year old total.

I guess I didn't realize how old she was to begin with, lol! And my memory lately on certain things is shocking. I think my brain is either losing matter, or has too much to contend with... so it just conveniently "forgets" about some things! :p
