Today i went and got myself an African Mantis only to find out that there are two types, that i know of. Af. mantis and the Giant Af. mantis. Judging by the size of it now i would guess that it is a level 3 but i have now idea which one it will turn out to be, to anyone that reads this is there any way of telling which one it is ?

Thank you

JC

s. viridis or s. lineola are the two types. They look just slightly different as adults. I do not know how to tell them apart as nymphs.

The pronotum of S. lineola is around 20% wider on the top half whereas the top half is nearly double the width of the bottom half for S.viridis (it looks more like a tennis racket than a rectangle for S. viridis). I'm not certain the dimensions are the same for small nymphs.

thanks orin, I had to look up the word pronotum but i'm with you now

Cheers
