Cloudy eyes: Old age or something else?

I had one female mantis back in 2009 that was blind as a bat. She would only react to prey just a couple cm away from her. I never really noticed anything wrong with her eyes, though but I could have failed to notice. It could definitely be a sign of old age but from personal experience it's a...

Both my Mantises eyes changed color drastically

I've had one situation with a male M. Religiosa whose eyes stayed dark permanently. After his last molt, he had the typical brown eyes for a brown mantis: But about 1 week or 2 after the molt his eyes got black and stayed black until his death: He went on to have a healthy normal life...

    Post-mortem posing

@Ranitomeya That's very interesting. I should try that next year. I'll let you know on next December :P @Sticky I've seen that too. There are some Youtube videos about that subject but I've read the ingredients are relatively expensive.

    Post-mortem posing

Cheers :D I've simply put them in a warm and dry room for a couple days and that's the result. I've tried many preservation methods and that one aparently appears to be the best one so far. I've tried various methods including: Seal the specimens in a plastic box and cover their bodies on one...

    Post-mortem posing

Gigantic bump. Since my first time doing this I've improved the technique. My last and first time was a little messy but these are better.

Praying mantis as pets in disaster

Does this thread have something to do with Hurricane Patricia by any chance? This question is a no-brainer honestly. I'm with Rick here

    A small curiosity

This one hatched from an ooth of a female I mated last Autumn. If I knew what couple conceived this mantis, their own fore arm spots could say something about it. Unfortunately I don't know from which female and male he came from because I mixed up the ooths of several females when it was time...

    A small curiosity

You know those black spots on the underside of M. Religiosa's fore arms, right? They make it easy to identify the species. These spots, as you may know, can either be full black or with a tiny white spot added. How about both?

    Buy mantis in Europe.

I think your best is the UK. You have France too though http://www.linsecterie.com/

    Intro. plus a question

Do what I do if you don't want to keep too many mantids. Just let some fruit untouched in your kitchen and grab the fruit flies that come by. You don't need to raise them I can feed at least 10 mantids like this without issues.

    Mantis broke leg. Infection? emergency!

First off, nice to meet someone that lives a little closer to me :P I had a female that suffered in a similar way but it was one of her fore limbs that was infected and spread very quickly. I cut her leg in the elbow and saved her life. Young adult Religiosas need little to no humidity at...

    What's wrong with my mantis?

He looks rather pale. Probably suffers from sepsis

Mantis horror! Eye missing thorax piercing!

Once I had a male that had the same fate. At that time I didn't know alcohol was so deadly to insects. My male had a rather active death

    Pregnant or injured?

That honestly is worrysome position. Don't take my word for it but every mantis I kept with gradual loss of the legs won't live long
