Hi all,
I am looking for a male or two of Phyllovates chlorophaea. I am in the US (US only) - please PM me if you have any for sale. Will also consider subadult males. Thanks!
I had the same problem! Mind you this was like seven or eight years ago, but I ended up with a bunch of adults that never even tried to mate, or the male would attempt for five minutes and then flee the female. Oddly enough the females never ate the males... they all just died of old age. :-/
Received my mantids today - packed and shipped really well, no losses in transit even with a few successful molts and even some extras in the box! Thank you Brian!
I've kept these for a couple years and find wild multiflora rose works great for the first few instars. It's also abundant early in the season when a lot of other stuff hasn't leafed out yet. Hatchling mortality is high regardless; usually at least 25-33% of neonates never make it past a week...
I just received several mantids from Rich. All were well packed, well-fed (even some flies remaining) and healthy on arrival. Transaction was smooth and Rich kindly held them until they molted, then shipped them promptly. He even threw in an extra! Thanks, Rich!
Welcome! I saw in your post you are from Buffalo - I grew up near there (Blasdell) but moved out of WNY a bunch of years ago. Glad to see someone else from home.
Rebecca might be right - perfectly circular holes on the ooth (especially that are not along the 'hatch line' of flaps on the top) often indicate parasitization by a wasp. These usually reduce the number of babies out of the ooth but rarely do they wipe out the entire clutch. Do be careful not...
I agree - but I still wouldn't want to bet her to make due on her threat display. I imagine they have quite a nip. What's the deal with the iridescence under the legs? Bright warning colors? Is that common to T's?
Ordered some nymphs and ooths from Paul. They came safe and sound, and he included extras! Threw in two free ooths too. Very nice guy! Highly recommended.

I think Orin needs more positive feedback....wouldn't want him to feel left out.
I just received some well-packed and healthy millipedes from Orin. Highly recommended!

To Christian: I've kept Stagmomantis limbata for over three years now in continuous breeding, although with input to my stock from Mike on this forum and Dr. Mike Maxwell in CA. I know, not S. carolina and perhaps somewhat easier to rear, but it must be possible for S. carolina and for S...
Paul's awesome!
He went out and found me a pair of subadult narrow-winged mantids, kept them until they molted, and stuffed them full of food for their trip. They arrived really well packed and in perfect health. Couldn't have done better myself!
Highly recommended.

Nobody wants to make a few bucks and help out a fellow mantid geek?
I can cover shipping and a small fee if you'll collect... but they need to be T. angustipennis!
Send me a PM!
I do not know about Ant mantids and such. But I do know that Miomantis can reproduce parthenogenetically for many many generations - I have kept a colony in my laboratory of only females, as well as a group which I 'kept' sexual having both males and females.
However there are costs to this...
