i guess i was assuming that it was wild caught in Peru. you just can't get that species in the U.S. very redily. and the overall coloration looks like gigantea, most of the pedes i can get readily are some form of subspinipes ( asian centipedes) vietnamese etc.

ok, i ordered 100 larvae on wed, they shipped them thurs. and i recieved them on friday morning. they even emailed me back with a total on shipping that they charged to my card. :D they all arrived just fine.

as far as eating each other i believe the younger ones do , but the male female pair never bothered each other. as for catching prey, they jump on it and pin it down or gab it kinda clumsily with their front legs . that's what all the spikes are for.Orin has an article on them in a back issue of...

these guys are strict carnivores. big and mean. green body, bright red eyes, spines on their legs. they bite really hard and can draw blood (from what i've heard) they are native to the US, from Arizona. a desert species.

all the male orchid mantids i had available are currently spoken for. thanks for all the replies. hopefully there will be nymphs available soon .

reason being, it's thought that part of a mantids diet includes , if not is solely made up of, pollenating insects, so it would stand to reason they injest quite a bit of pollen . pollen is a great protien and energy source (ask any natural medicine guy) and so is good to feed mantids...

i know some of you guys use bee pollen to dust your feeders before you give them to your mantids, especially your flower mantids, wouldn't it have the same effect to just use the bee pollen as a gut load? i ask because i get really frustrated using flies as feeders. especially when you try to...
