    Cordero

This was my first time buying & having mantises shipped, and it was a very positive experience. Cordero helped me through transaction process, reminded me of what foods to have ready for their arrival, and followed up with shipping tracking info. My mantis friends just arrived healthy and...

    Deformed wings

Whoops! Just didn't wait long enough. She did need to pump them up...I should have known, just panicked. She is fine & dandy now.

    Deformed wings

I had one of my mantises out to "play." Less than 2 hours later, she molted to adulthood, but her wings are severely deformed. Is it possible that moving around so close to her final moult messed with her wing development? Otherwise, she seems fine.

    Mantid traps!

I never find them in the wild when I am looking for them...only by accident!

    Little arm gone

I had one last year that lost a leg. It didn't grow back, but it didn't slow him down either. He lived to adulthood, normal lifespan, no problems catching food. It made him stand out from the rest, too! Miss that little guy!

    Cricket Quencher

Thanks for the input, everyone. It's a common thread in my life that I tend to make things more difficult (and more expensive) than they need to be! I'll give some of your ideas a shot!

    Cricket Quencher

I've put Cricket Quencher (the jell-o-like stuff) in with my mantises for a water source. They use it & so do the fruit flies. My local pet shop, though, has quit carrying the plain kind, and only has the calcium enriched (which I assume is more for the benefit of reptiles that usually eat...

    Good mantis book?

Are there any good mantis books out there? Seems like all of them are written at kid level - which can still have good information, but I'd like something written at a higher level. Another thread mentioned The Praying Mantids By Frederick R. Prete, Lawrence E. Hurd, but it is quite expensive...

    mantid sight

That is one expensive book! Those that have it or have read it - worth the $? While I'm no entomologist, I do have a scientific-type interest.

Thanks for asking the question! And for the answer! I've always wanted to know, but never got around to asking.

    Droopy Mantis 2

Thanx for the replies. He did die. *sigh* I do have 2 left from the same case. Hopefully they will live a bit longer. Thanks again!

    Droopy Mantis 2

Apologies if this is a second posting..my first may have gotten lost in cyberspace. I have a 4 month old adult Chinese mantis. Yesterday he was eating & flying, and today he doesn't have the strength to move, and won't even eat from my hand. I've read that they live 5-6 months, so this...

    Hi, Mantis People!

I work at a nature center in central Illinois, and have been taking care of all kinds of crazy critters! Last year, I took in and hatched a Chinese Manits egg case & kept 5. None of them made it to adulthood. This year, I kept 30. Over the weeks, I let many go, and some died. I now have...
