    2 Stagmantis Californica Ooths

Hi! I have 2 new ooths from my native species here in Southern California. These guys are a beautiful species and vary form a bright green to smoky spotted beige. Adults grow to a hefty 2.5 to 3 inches. If you have any interest, make me an offer! [email protected] A pic:

    All of a sudden..

Hey guys! It's been a few months I guess- point is, one of my ooths has hatched. I only got around 50 or so little guys. Anyway, just proving that this mating worked so they must have been the same species. The nymphs are both green and brown- so cute! Well I put them outside my window where...

    All of a sudden..

Thanks! More photos: I fed her asap! She's skinny again.

    All of a sudden..

Update! Shortly after this mating, I found a green female! She was a bit more ferocious so the male got his head ripped off despite my efforts. Then his little body subsequently began to mate with her. It was creepy. The brown (apparently still unidentified) female is laying an ooth right now...

    All of a sudden..

This looks just like her. She is likely a California girl. The armbands and dark legs that she has could probably be excused as a variation.. Don't worry, I have been feeding Miss California whatever I can find. She's a pig. So my green male is limbata, correct? So if both male and female are...

    All of a sudden..

Is it possible for mating to occur more than once if the female already had contact and may already be fertilized? Are there clear ways to tell if she is fertilized afterward?

    Crazy Mismolt

I feel like I don't have enough condemning votes here, so I'm keeping Twiggy alive. Hahaaa..

    All of a sudden..

They finally separated now. lol. Hope these photos are good enough.. Mr. Dude got away unharmed. He really ran. It was funny.

    All of a sudden..

Oh, so she is European? For anyone who disagrees, I just want to know if they're the same. haha

    All of a sudden..

It's too dark in my room to take photos now.. I'll try to take some in the morning. But I just looked and I don't see any red spots...

    All of a sudden..

So if they're a different species, is this mating pointless? They can't make little hybrids? hahaa

    All of a sudden..

US, Southern California.. They're bad pictures- I took them asap.. She took some dog food from me and she's eating it.. Do you think she still might attack..?

    All of a sudden..

Just now, I found a pretty brown female outside.. And just for the heck of it, I introduced my smaller green male.. And presto! LOL My question is.. Are they even the same species? I think that the green dude is Chinese.. I don't know.. So do you think I'll have any luck? They haven't stopped...

    Crazy Mismolt

It's irrelevant now --but I was misting his container regularly before he shed. I appreciate all of your advice! I've managed to catch another little dude in my backyard; I'm pretty sure that he's Chinese, since I set an eggcase free a while back. He molted into wings! yaay It will be hard to...

Ok, he shed again, but not only did the old arm not shed off, but he managed to rip off half of his front leg- the one that was fine before! I'm looking at these pictures again and the joint of his good arm looked abnormal.. Maybe that's why it ripped off, since it was too skinny..? I helped...

    Twiggy!

    Thanks for the analysis!

    Finger nail hardener?

Does your petco sell mantids (or do they just have random care sheets)? Just curious.. lol

    Twiggy!

Oh that's awesome! I looked at the species photos and I remember having found a similar looking adult in my backyard before. It will be interesting to see what he looks like as he grows.. I;m hoping he'll shed out of his deformity..

    Twiggy!

This is Twiggy! (Is that a common name here?) I found him in my backyard.. Can you tell me about its sex/species? This is the first time I've raised a mantis from a nymph. Right now he's a hunchback due to a mismolt..

    Crazy Mismolt

Probably... Does anyone know, approximately, how long it takes a 1.5 inch (Chinese?) mantis to molt? Does it depend on how much they eat? As I said, it's been a week.. After reading posts here, I've been misting him everyday. He's my first little mantis pet. I found him as a brown nimph in...
