What to do for sick baby ghost mantids?

I'll try that, hopefully, I'll get the mixture right this time. Don't' want to get another baby stuck to a q-tip :(  Thanks for your suggestions!

What to do for sick baby ghost mantids?

Thanks for replying :)  I just looked at the instar reference pics for Ghosts and it looks like they may be L4-L5 since they've got the ghost swirl thing on top of their heads. I knew the honey water option but last time I tried that I didn't dilute the honey enough and my poor baby mantis got...

What to do for sick baby ghost mantids?

Hey all, I think that my cultures of fruit flies went bad or something 'cause I've got a couple of sick baby ghost mantids. There are 5 and they are living together, still really small my guess is L3ish. I've noticed brown stuff on the glass, almost as if they are throwing up and they seem...

    MantisGirl13

I ordered 8 baby ghost mantids and MantisGirl13 threw in an extra just to be safe. 8/9 arrived happy and hungry. One, unfortunately, did not make it but that happens and it was in the same cup as two survivors so it wasn't MantisGirl's fault. She's been great with replying to my messages quickly...

    New babies :)

Thanks Graceface, and yep as others stated they are ghost mantids and they are very similar to ants lol. That's the first thing my dad said when he saw them, he asked if I was sure I got mantids and not ants. I'll bring you one when they're bigger if you want one @Allthingsterrarium . I have to...

My mantis is worrying me, again!

I'm a beginner so take this with a grain of salt, but my S. Aurea just completed her final molt and she did not eat for maybe 5 days beforehand. The day after she scarfed down two big crickets and is back to normal now. So it could be a molting thing in my very limited experience :)

    New babies :)

Got 8 new mantid babies today from @MantisGirl13  They arrived happy but hungry and immediately chowed down on fruit flies.

    Net cage for nymphs?

Thanks for the replies guys :) I think I may get some, I only have two nymphs so the cost isn't prohibitive for them

    Net cage for nymphs?

I've seen conflicting info browsing this board so I figured I'd ask for opinions. Which is better for nymphs, a net cube or a plastic/glass jar with fabric lid? I have my baby shield mantids in a 1/2 pint glass jar but it is HARD to get them back in and was considering a net cube for ease of...

    RIP Mantis Nymph

Thanks everyone for your kind words :) I'm just glad there are three healthy babies still. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me if my jar habitats could have contributed to the little ones early exit.

    RIP Mantis Nymph

One of the baby shield mantids I got, unfortunately, didn't make it. Wondering if the container I made was the reason it died or if it was just unlucky. Examining it, it looks like the little guys stomach was pretty flat so I think it just failed to hunt the fruit flies I put in there with it...

What's the best way to care for a hatchling?

She's in a 1/2 pint size glass canning jar with a top the standard canning jar size (it's the same size as the bigger jars I made for when they get bigger). The top is made out of cross-stitch fabric and then a layer of 100% cotton on top of that to make sure that the fruit flies don't get out...

Meet "Mosquito" the baby shield mantis

This is one of the healthy babies I got from @yankeeman1421 . This one is my sisters and she named her Mosquito for now until we know the gender for sure when it molts a few times. She's very healthy and active and she already has an attitude. She puts her raptor arms up at us when we take her...

    Yankeeman1421

I had a great experience with @yankeeman1421 . I ordered three R. Basalis babies and he was great with accommodating a special request from me. They shipped the morning after I ordered them and were well packaged. It took USPS 4 days to get them to me and they were still very active and healthy...

    Possible health issue

Thanks for the reassurance everyone :) I appreciate it. I'm just a worry-wart when it comes to my pets lol

Better late than never, hello all :)

New to mantids. Joined because my cousin @Allthingsterrarium suggested it after he and my sister picked out my S. Aurea for me. You guys are great and helped a lot with making me feel confident that I can take good care of her.  Here's a pic :)

    Possible health issue

Thanks guys, just wanted to see if anyone else experienced it. Maybe it's a normal color change for her, I'm not sure. It seemed weird that her legs and underside suddenly got darker lol. I'll leave her alone and wait and see, and will update if/when she molts or gets worse.

    Possible health issue

I managed to get a few pics. This Mantis used to be a lighter brown on the legs and underside of its abdomen  , now it's getting darker spots/dark brown legs. @Synapze It molted about a month ago I think, it was sold to my sister as an L3 or L4 and she gave it to me as a gift so I'm not sure...

    Possible health issue

I have a young (not sure exactly how old) S. Aurea mantis and it has started to turn a darker color, in particular on its lower abdomen and legs. It is also more aggressive than usual and disinterested in food. Not sure if it is sick or if it's getting ready to molt, anyone have experience with...
