Ninth Budwing ooth -> 60 nymphs

The 9th and final ooth from one of my now dead Budwing females hatched out today and produced about 60 nymphs. About 1/2 the first ooths that she laid. Pictures in the gallery

I grabbed a Katydid while mowing the lawn Thursday and fed it to my adult female Asian Giant. By Monday AM she was near death and I put her in the freezer.

    Fast Growth

My post putting these guys up for sale was dated April 9th, which would be shorlty after they hatched out. So a bit over 3 weeks to get to L4, seems wacky, but they were on the all-you-can-eat plan.

    Fence Lizard

This is Beta, a young adult male Fence Lizard. He was caught as a baby and tolerates close inspection. He shares a 40 g breeder with a smaller male Fence Lizard and an Eastern Glass Lizard. We have plans to snag him a bride soon.

    Fast Growth

With a warm spring, the bug room has been hitting 80 F during the day. I've been keeping my wide arm nypmhs well fed and with the heat, they are blowing through their molt stages. I have not been keeping track, but it seems they went from L2 to L4 in 2 weeks.

    A good starter ooth?

Budwings are another good one. Also Wide Arms. These are two I have hacthed and raised with good success as a neophyte. They seem pretty tolerant of varying conditions and are aggressive eaters.

    Bad Orchid Molt

I had a metal screened lid and a strip of screen down the side. The screen down the side is for roaches to crawl up to get eaten. She chose the side screen about 2/3 up to molt. My other female is moving into a taller container after her next molt with modified bottom screening.

    Bad Orchid Molt

Female orchid molted into adulthood and forelegs didn't get out. She molted from halfway up her deli cup, which may have been the main problem. Hindsight, she needed a taller container. A 32 oz cup is too small.

I ordered some mantis husbandry supplies from Nick at Total Mantis. Order showed up promptly and had some nice extras. Nick's website is a good one-stop shop for mantid needs at reasonable prices. He also carries mantids for sale.
