    Vivarium WIP

Here's the finished vivarium- plants and all. I need to let it air out for a day or so before I start putting springtails and stuff in there. Soon I will be ordering a mantid! http://m.imgur.com/2EjE3OO

    Vivarium WIP

A WIP of a vivarium I started yesterday! I finished carving and foaming, so next I'll be doing the silicone and ground coconut husk! Then the background will be done. Anything you guys recommend? Here's the link http://m.imgur.com/rUEIHPb

    Nymph canister

As an artist I have used my fair share of foamies (those thin sheets of craft foam) and I have to say they hold up pretty well, but the white ones do get dirty quite fast! This does look better than deli cups to me as well. What I also think would work well is an empty disinfectant wipe...

What enclosure size is too big?

Nymphs should be kept in a smallish container until they are a bit bigger so they don't have trouble finding prey. (Unless you want to hand-feed for awhile) I really don't think there is such a thing as 'too big' of an enclosure- so long as you can find them when you need to, and food is readily...

    Camera

I haven't photographed mantids yet (as I still need to get some) but I have photographed frogs and other small animals before. I use an EOS Rebel T5 DSLR (I do however recommend the T5i over the one I have). Those two are great beginner cameras! I have two different lenses, (one regular and one...

    Greetings From Virginia!

Ironically that is also how I learned to love mantids! I had a pot of succulents sitting on my porch and I guess a female mantid laid her ootheca somewhere nearby and while leaving the house I noticed that the succulents were covered in baby mantids. Quite an adorable surprise.

    Question About Mantid Flying

Thank you very much! I knew that it varied by sex but I didn't know if all mantids had flight capable wings. Is there any species you could recommend to me that don't (or can't) fly much? I wouldn't mind the flying but I'd prefer a species that didn't fly.

    Question About Mantid Flying

Hello! I know that some mantids can fly but I was curious to know if anyone has ever lost a praying mantis in their room? I am a bit wary of anything that flies, I just don't like the sound all that much but I would be fine if my future pet mantid for some reason decided to take a joyride around...

    Greetings From Virginia!

Greetings! I am a 15 year old male from Virginia! Recently I have gotten into the mantid hobby as I find them very interesting. I am hoping to soon get my own pet mantid when I move into my new house! Last summer I saw some nymphs on my porch! They took quite a liking to my succulents that I...
