    Alexander's Mantids: 2012 - Present

December 20th Willow (female Idolo) reached L5. Turns out I've been counting wrong the whole time. No way my girls are at L6, they're too small, and look just like my older Idolos did at L5. December 21st Peter (Griffinii) molted again! He's either a pre-sub or a sub. And Tacca (female...

    Breeding Idolos?

well ive been keeping them together 24/7, he tried twice the other day, but failed both times. Thats the forth time ive seen him try and fail. Hes really bad at this mating thing. Every time hes tried, it goes like this. He jumps on her, she shakes back and forth forcefully and he lets go or...

    urgent

I hand feed my nymphs usually. I take larger prey and cut it into pieces, like LAME said. Then put the piece on a needle and offer it to the nymph. Usually they will take it on their own, sometimes you have to put the guts on the mouth so they can taste it, which can be hard to do sometimes but...

    Breeding Idolos?

My male is now 3 1/2 weeks into adulthood and the female is 4 1/2 weeks. She calls and calls. The male tried making his move a week ago. He jumped on, but she shook back and forth so hard that he fell off. The same thing happened the next day. He hasn't tried again since. I have the heat at...

Sticks or no sticks for molting?

I cut out the lid with a razor and replace it with screen netting which you can see into and out of. Most of my enclosures are designed with molting in mind. It may not be as pleasant but it keeps them from mismolting. But they still get to have time out of the cage, for feeding and exploring...

LOLOh yeah, thats true, its all about it being a community.. But like you said you may have to at this rate! Well even if you did, they were raised to adulthood AND bred in there, so that is still communal for the most part!

Aw she ate him?? Dude those females need to cut that out! Sorry dude... but at least she was bred. You still have younger males too right, so they can grow up. Are ya gonna keep them separate from the females? They seem to have become ravenous!! I think it's cause they're preparing to lay...

Tenodera sinensis... out of all species, I've owned these the most. My first one was Keek, she is the mantids in all the photos below lol. I need more photos. My first Phyllocrania paradoxa... they were my second mantids: The female's exuviae and wings. Kent-Lok! She was such a sweet...

    Alexander's Mantids: 2012 - Present

Popa spurca females: They both reached adulthood and laid infertile oothecae. 7 molts for females. Close up of the ootheca. The exuviae of my Parasphendale species. I always thought they were agrionina, but they may have been affinis. Not sure. 9 molts for females, males have 8...

Hey guys! Well I never showed you guys my mantid wall, so I figured I would! It's gonna take a few separate posts, lots of photos, lol. Here is the full wall: Idolomantis diabolica exuviae, female on the left and the male's last molt on the right: Kaz's wings, adult male Stagmomantis...

Sticks or no sticks for molting?

Shelf liner is a perfect molting surface. I usually align the sides of their containers with it as well. Some mantids will use their exuvia to get up, others will try to use the side of the container. If there is nothing to grasp when they try to use the side, they may fall. So I would align the...
