    Light Traps and Mantis Collecting

You won't get females to the sheets and even nymphs are unlikely to move in very often. Adult males fly in in limited numbers during breeding season (when they have wings). You are much better off in simply driving around small or rural towns in areas where mantises occur and checking the area...

    SATS!!!!

Awesome! I'm stuck with the smaller moths out here in Oregon, but we do have a few colorful ones (that don't necessarily belong here but still ARE here), like this: http://bugguide.net/node/view/778119 Do you ever upload to Bugguide? Is your pink one the one they call the Rosy Maple Moth...

    Really Surprising!

Actually, I'm going to close this thread. I had walked away from it, but a handful of members have lately expressed concerns about bullying and this might be a good opportunity to discuss that theme with moderators.

    Really Surprising!

Ladygigi, Please ignore most of these folks. I haven't read many of your other threads on this forum, though it seems most of the people here are bringing baggage from other threads into this one. You are welcome to sell your mantises for any price you like. You are welcome to share your...

    Moth Interest Survey

You may want to be a little bit more guarded in your offerings for these. Governing bodies and even moth keepers themselves get a little upset about the transport of leps around the country. There are isolated populations of some or all of the species you are offering that are genetically...

What the bleep do we know!?

Loved that movie at the time. It was all or partly filmed in Portland (my hometown), adding to the surreality of the experience for me. I actually watched it AT the Baghdad theater it was partly filmed in. Here's the scene, though it's a bit hard to provide context to viewers who haven't seen...

fried bugs as a nutritious and tasty snack!

Love it! My wife left the following open on my laptop for me last week because she knows I'm all over it (she is too). At least one other member in this thread is from Portland, so bon appetit! http://www.kgw.com/news/local/Portland-restaurant-specializes-in-edible-insects-207809831.html There...

    Meiosimyza fly

I'm really impressed with your photo and appreciate reading the background behind the shot. I hope to have a set up like you have someday, but I've got too many bugs to feed all the time and no time for other hobbies. I took about 40 photos today and of course none of them are nearly that nice...

    Found near home....Oregon

Great! I'm thinking the week prior actually. I have a small mission to collect a particular insect on the West side of Crater Lake, on the way down. Will be great to get the guys together again, and will be in touch. Hey, was that reddish Antrodiaetus(?) just post-molt or what? Crazy color...

    Found near home....Oregon

A little bird told me you might have collected some Omus and now I see the photos! I have a contact doing DNA barcoding on members of that genus (as well as some other insects). I'd love to get a few specimens if yours to compare relatedness with ones I'm getting from 2 locations in WA State...

Portrait of a yellow rabbit snail (Tylomelania zemis)

We tend to get the mottled olive and brown-spotted banana slugs in my yard. I've still not seen any that are nearly that yellow. Wow, I can almost see the common ancestor with the octopus! So, that shot is underwater then? Native to BC or not?

    Product report, Bugnapper

I put my 5.0 (18 inch UV full spectrum white bulb) in a Styrofoam cooler every night and prop it up against the wall of my house. Bugs drop in for a few hours and then I pop the lid on the cooler before I go to bed. Lots of things do land in the periphery but they are easy seen on the house. I'd...

    Hello from Lima

Jrh3, please conduct your interrogations via PM from this point forward. It's inappropriate in the public space. Another member did contact me via PM to raise the issue with this member(s). In this case, it seems you were both right. While the member was rather convincing, the veil of lies...

    Dedicated Caresheets? (Brainstorming)

Once we get the rules and template-outline done, the care sheets will be up for editing. I think we're almost there. This is a public thread. For that who don't know, Agent A and Jamurjfr have volunteered as care sheet section moderators.

    Lovely Moths - Identify?

Posting the photos on Bugguide.net is the easiest way to get unusual things identified. Just click on the ID Request tab, fill out a bit of info. on the form about your location and date and then upload the photo.
