My New Little Family with ID Info

Ugh, I couldn't find my good pictures I took... But here's a picture I took a while back comparing I. oratoria to a Litaneutria sp nymph I had found. Iris is on the left. http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv158/MantidLord/New stuff/DSCN0195.jpg I think it's second instar though, so sorry...

My New Little Family with ID Info

@happy, often Iris will have a line down the middle as well. And just to clarify, although they hatch out tan, I often have a few green L1s after a couple of days. Usually though, the green comes in at about the 3rd or 4th instar. Of course a picture of the ooth would help, but until I'm...

    Feeders galore

Wow...That's awesome. Do you have a room for all of those?

My New Little Family with ID Info

    I. oratoria is fairly easy to breed. You don't get as many random die offs as say T. sinensis or M. religiosa. Also water isn't such a huge factor and although you should always mist them from time to time, they can function well without it. Basically, humidity isn't a problem with them. You can...

My New Little Family with ID Info

Looks like Iris oratoria to me. Just read that you said the females were M. religiosa. I didn't those nymphs were green. You sure adult females didn't look like this: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3397/3262811976_fe32fd5cf6.jpg Not my image. Also, the fact that you're getting more hatchlings...

Species in culture poll 2013 maybe?

Maybe something to do with broadcasting exactly what exotic mantids are being kept in the states? Just a wild guess. Sort of how the rules in the phasmid forum are (or were, I haven't checked) in terms of discussing the possession of exotic phasmids in the states. With mantids there isn't a...

Who did i talk to about the Stagmo-Limbata ooth???

I was talking to you about an ooth, but I was looking for one that would hatch relatively soon.

    Mantis dissaperance in Sacramento California

I forgot to mention I also found Litaneutria sp in Davis. But like Ntsees said, Both M. religiosa and I. oratoria are introduced, as such I doubt their populations are decreasing much. Unfortunately I didn't see an S. californica last summer, I didn't know they reached as far north as the Bay...

Updated needs: Just S. limbata and M. religiosa (ooths or nymphs)

Hey everyone, sorry for another thread (I didn't know we can no longer update previous threads). I'm now looking for S. limbata and M. religiosa ooths, no longer I. oratoria. HOWEVER, if nymphs are available, I will accept those. So preferably ooths but I'll take nymphs if possible. If nymphs...

cali chows down. cilnia gets pissed. wahlbergii needs to shave!

Wow, I always thought the "C" in "Cilnia" was pronounced with an "S" sound. Nice pics though! Hope you can breed C. humeralis! And you have a pnigomantis?? It's like you're collecting my dream species.

    Mantis dissaperance in Sacramento California

That's interesting. The past summer I found the exact opposite. A lot of M. religiosa, only a few S. limbata (no S. carolina nor S. californica) and more (but not as much as M. religiosa) I. oratoria. Granted I guess I wasn't technically in Sac, I was in Davis and Winters.

Spider. Food or Friend? YOU decide!

That video was awesome! Did not expect that from a male mantis. Was that T. sinensis? And what was the black widow doing? Trying to wrap him up without going in for the bite?

photoshoot!! yay!! :) stagmos, mesos, and ghosts

Nice pics! I didn't know your S. californica hatched! I only had two hatch and they both died the very next day... Do you have any more limbatas?

    Still looking to buy

    M. religiosa, I. oratoria and S. limbata ooths. Can be wild caught! Just, I'd ask for more to ensure some are fertile and not parasitized. Although I will compensate you for going out and finding them!

    RESEARCH REQUEST

Hello everyone, I'm conducting an experiment this summer. However I'm in need of ootheca of the three mentioned species (I. oratoria, S. limbata, M. religiosa). Please message me if you have any of these ooths that are believed to be fertile. I. Will. Pay.

Hi, I really hate to bring up an old thread, but is there anyway these pictures can be revived?

    Undiscovered species?

Meadow, I think Malaysia is a perfect place to start (as good as any other). I intend on basing my research in Southeast Asia after I graduate, so who knows what can happen.

    Undiscovered species?

I'm still trying to figure out whether Sphodromantis is a synonym to Hierodula. Gripen, I understand what you're saying. At work I'm now sorting out (as best as I can) some mantids from Central Africa, South America and some "oriental" specimens. Really cool species I'm seeing, but quiet a lot...

    Undiscovered species?

Well that's a subjective statement. There's little doubt that there are more, finding them may not even be a real problem. But identifying them and placing them in the right taxonomic group may be the real challenge. And getting them into culture, a whole different story.
