    Curious Posture

My malaysian dead leaf, Maple, has been doing this off and on for a couple of days now, and I've never seen any of my other nymphs do it. I'm mainly just curious what he/she is up to, if anyone knows.

    Nymph *** Confirmation

Well, I’m back. I think I’ve been bamboozled, because Pancakes is looking like a female to me now as a freshly-molted (2 days ago) L6. Am I just projecting wishful thinking here?

How many molts for R. megaera?

Excellent, so still plenty of time to grow! This molt took a solid 5.5 weeks, so it should be interesting to see how long the rest take lol. Thank you for the information!

How many molts for R. megaera?

I tried searching this on the forum but couldn't find anything. Was kind of surprised there isn't already a dedicated caresheet. My male (90% sure) R. megaera molted to L6 last night but is still surprisingly tiny, so I was just curious how many molts there might be left to increase size.

    codex7

Just had my first experience with codex7 to purchase 3 ghost mantis nymphs, and it was pleasant top-to-bottom. codex7 was patient and accommodating with my semi-irregular shipping needs, the price was amazing, the box expertly packed, and even threw in an extra nymph. All arrived healthy and...

    Ghost mantis communalism

I had a pretty small container, but less than 15 minutes with 2 in a 32oz container (which was just supposed to be temporary until I got home), and they tried to kill each other. One of them lost a leg for the effort. Personally, I just plan to keep them like any other mantids; better safe than...

Am I looking at black death here?

Thanks for the feedback, all. This nymph is the one that had it's leg forcibly removed by its broodmate, so if one is going to go, I'm sure it's this one. I'll try to get a whiff of it and see if there's an odor or not. Otherwise all of my nymphs are eating from the same culture of fruit flies...

Am I looking at black death here?

Just found one of my ghost nymphs surrounded by some unhealthy looking liquid on the side of its container. Am I looking at black death here? Anything to be done?

    Here There be Ghosts

@codex7! Was an outstanding deal, and was very patient with my shipping needs.

    Here There be Ghosts

I left them all in the same container (which is how they came) just until I get home, and unfortunately I just caught two of them striking at each other pretty aggressively. I was able to break it up just by opening the lid, so I separated them all out individually. One of the two that were...

    Preserving in Resin

With rhino beetles, you can pose and pin (without penetrating) your specimen, and allow them to either dry in a container with mothballs, or naturally in a garage or something (it stinks something fierce) if you live in a fairly arid place. I would imagine you can do the same with mantids. Once...

    Here There be Ghosts

My first Phyllocrania paradoxa! This little guy/gal was eager to explore outside the shipping container, and showed zero fear being the first one out with no coaxing whatsoever. Of the 4 I received, 3 of them were perfectly calm and curious, and the last was just a little wary of crawling onto...

    30 Million-Year-Old preserved Praying Mantis

That is extremely cool. I have my doubts, but it is extremely cool all the same.

    Changing Container for Molting

I must've misread his posture, as he still hasn't molted as of today (going on 32 days waiting for L6), so I got the opportunity to remove all but a single stick that goes up the side. This little guy has never had any problem climbing the sides of the deli cup itself, so the more I think about...

    Changing Container for Molting

My current container setup is a 32oz deli container with window screen across the entire tip, a stick going from the sub to the lid to climb in case of falls, and a fake leafy plant doing the same. There is plenty of unobstructed space for molts, and yet I'm pretty sure my R megaera is preparing...
