    Climbing materials for mantids

Looking for alternatives to tree branches, they appear to be going mouldy in only a week. Do you guys have alternatives that are safe, easy for the little dudes to traverse, don't go mouldy, and look good aesthetically? Would some type of plastic vine be acceptable or do they require something...

    Fruitfly culture advice

Thank you. I purchased a kit that has enough for 4 more cultures, just add water and mix the provided ingredients. Problem is, I bought 1 active culture from a reputable company, but clearly they didn't use any form of mold control. I feel I have been really ripped off by Livefoodsdirectltd...

    Fruitfly culture advice

https://anonimage.net/image/u19KtWX7zt Can anyone advise me on the health of this colony going by the mould? Livefoodsdirectltd told me this is what a healthy culture looks like after 1 week. It was black within days, and 7 days later has gone full green mould, which they told me their experts...

    L2 Nymph feeding

I have got some micro crickets, but my L2/3 nymphs don't seem interested. They haven't eaten today, they had a fruit fly yesterday and I got some micro crickets to last until the rest of the flies hatch, but they don't seem interested. One has molted a few days ago, the other hasn't molted in...

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

Do you think hatchling crickets would be too much for these guys already? If I don't leave them alone, would it be ok? I read crickets can gang up and attack mantids.

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

How did you get on? I don't think my guys are  keen on being handfed, or hunting slow things yet, they grab the flies when they have the opportunity, but yet to see them actively stalking.

I cannot recommend these guys for fruit flies. I bought my first culture last Saturday, and it's mouldy. Flies does put within days, the pupa still have about a week to go according to their "experts" who also claim it's perfectly acceptable for a culture to go mouldy within 5 days.  No effort...

Is this a healthy fruitfly culture?

Mould spores generate more mould, so it hitched a ride on a host. It was a simple Google search that led me this usually reputable company, I'd used them for years for crickets, never fruit fly.

Is this a healthy fruitfly culture?

The company is happy that mould is normal within 5 days. I can't use this to start other colonies because it will transmit mould. Is there a reliable UK source for clean fruit flies?

    Emergency fruitfly advice

Ok cool, they're plumper than they were a week ago, but still tiny L3 mios. I handfed a squished pupa, they loved it. I'll give them banana next, or honey. I hear they go crazy for honey.

Is this a healthy fruitfly culture?

There's loads of larva, but should it be moldy after less than one week?

Is this a healthy fruitfly culture?

https://anonimage.net/image/Jt4gKgP7Y9 I've been advised this is an unhealthy culture. It was purchased from a reputable company on eBay who claim never have any issues with mites or mold. I would appreciate an expert opinion as it's very wet and dark in places, definitely mold in my opinion.

    Emergency fruitfly advice

They've just eaten today, I'm more concerned about over the weekend, I didn't expect the colony to take so long and all the flies to die in 5 days. Worried about them not liking crickets

    Emergency fruitfly advice

Would that work? If I place it in a hotter place, will they hatch quicker? I'll probably end up getting some micro crickets, that's all the local place has that's suitable I think.

    Emergency fruitfly advice

I have a fruit fly colony, but no flies. There's are so many pupae ready to pop, but might be another day or 2. Is there anything I can do to speed up their hatching? Or should I go get some micro crickets or something in the meantime? https://anonimage.net/image/Z68nYJ9nvB here was a a pupa...

Silverfish are horrible things, sometimes impossible to get rid of in older buildings.
