    Mantis sexing

I see what you mean about the end few fusing into one on the female. Thanks.

    Mantis sexing

I know now, but I was asking hypothetically, as I've stated there are no absolutes, I can however learn all I can about identifying and watch the segments develop after each molt. So when they do fuse, I'll have a better idea thanks to all the input from you guys.

    Mantis sexing

Thanks. I know there are no absolutes when dealing with the sexing of nymphs. Can give a rough idea though.

There's difference between the 2 I have, but I'm just being impatient. How many molts before the final subadult, then adult molt?

    Can you crossbreed mantids?

Wow, that's messed up that someone wiped out one species by crossbreeding them and lying.

Probably still too early to *** an L3 Egyptian, but on the off chance there are some indicators for the experts on this forum, please take a moment to see if there is anything there that could give a clue. https://anonimage.net/image/Ma6Ah3nMQ

    Can you crossbreed mantids?

I think I've started an addiction. Has anyone ever just stopped at 2? You could make some new awesome breeds. Once you get the food colonies started, they're pretty much free, apart from the cost of the new mantids.

    Can you crossbreed mantids?

Just wondering if you can successfully crossbreed 2 types and create custom genus of mantid?

    RIP Crispy Mantis

I know, it's crazy. They're in a different league all together when it comes to insects. My partner didn't think she would like them, but as soon as she held my mio egyptian nymph and saw them looking curiously back at her she fell in love. They look right back at you, consciously, like we look...

    RIP Crispy Mantis

Sorry to hear that. That'll be the only unpleasant thing about owning mantids, the end of their short lives.

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

Pretty good thanks, both aren't eating, but I suspect that's because the other is about to molt, and the freshly molted one has no appetite yet. Apart from that, getting pretty fast and curious.

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

Yeah they look like they'll have nice colouring. Sort of an opaque turquoise, and similar with a slightly darker colouring.

    L2 mio nymph levelling up?

    Haha, thanks. You have mios?

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

I read the larger ones are treated with growth hormone that makes sure they continue growing instead of turning into beetles. If a nymph had a standard mealworm that was too big, would they stop eating, or eat so much they would damage themselves?

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

Those guys are giants. Regular mealworms are skinny little guys, about 1cm roughly.

L2 Nymph feeding, food colony startup

Awesome, thank you. My 2 guys are L2 and L3, should I start the mealworm colony now?  Do you mean morioworms? Those are huge mealworms if I remember correct.
