    Most Intelligent Species, Dimmest Species

This was great! :D Really interesting question, Meadow... I never thought about it before. I wonder if there is a species difference or if it's more individually based. I always love hearing about Nikki Mantis... Sounds like her hobbies were much more involved than mine! :D

    There is nothing like...

That's really funny. I've noticed my mantis watching TV with me as well, although it doesn't seem to hold his attention as long as it holds mine. :) Paradoxica, that's really funny about your mantis! Andrew: were they just more engaged with Call of Duty than Animal Planet?

Take Your Pet (Mantids) to Work Day

I like that, although I suppose it really depends on where you work! I used to work at a nursery, and that would have been a lot of fun for him to be out in the greenhouse with me while I cleaned plants for sale! I'd love to take him to classes (my "job" right now) but he might be a little bit...

    He Grew Up So Fast!

Thanks for your kind comments, guys! :D I'm so proud of him for getting through all his molts safely  I've been showing him off to everyone who comes to the apartment... Looking back, I still can't believe how small he was! He doesn't seem inclined to fly but I've heard males tend to...

    He Grew Up So Fast!

I woke up Wednesday morning to find my H. patellifera boy, Siri, had molted into an adult! He is my first and only mantis, so I was thrilled (and even more glad that it happened when I was asleep, or I would have had a panic attack). It had just happened, since he was still flicking his wings...

Do any of you guys take your mantids outside?

I was just thinking about this the other day, since my mantis is now huge and not as easily lost. But I'd be worried about winged escape, so I like the idea of having an outdoor net enclosure...

    Memorable Feeder Insects/Feeding Experience Survey

Well, I was going to post a thread called "Open Season" because today is the first time I've noticed bugs, but you beat me to it! Looks like you've had better weather in NJ than we've had here in Washington... :D So, this is the first warm period of weather we've had in a bit... My roommate...

    Memorable Feeder Insects/Feeding Experience Survey

Aychen: I've noticed that smell too, back when I was having to make an insect collection for class. I've noticed it with some other "shield" bugs as well... Great first photo, by the way... wish I could make mine that clear!

    She's a wanderer!

I love it when they carry food around in one arm! Mine only does it if disturbed though, but if he does it's when I've given him a mealworm and it looks like he's strolling with an ice cream cone! :D Wish I had a camera with that level of detail!

This is where the mating will happen..

Great molting video... Good luck with the mating endeavor!

    Just Little Things-Mantis Version

1275: When your nymph sits calmly on your hand and nibbles you gently... 1276: Getting your mantis to finally switch to a different feeder after you run out of their first/favorite... 1277: Having dreams where you find a variety of exotic mantids in the wild near your house... 1278: Watching...

my granny is is the bestest!

That was beautiful! Yeah, the hummingbird rolling was incredible... (Was it attacking that bee in the right hand corner that was sort of spiraling away?) Also, at 2:40, one of the fruit bats has a baby clinging to it (I think)! Just an all around great compilation... and that's wonderful that...

    Amusing Mantids

One of my roommates really enjoys Ze Frank videos, so when this came out she was so excited to show me... I felt really proud of myself for being able to identify a lot of the mantids at the beginning. My favorite part of the video is the "not so gifted at the walking aspect..." :D

    Wild Ootheca! EXCELLENT!!!

Very exciting! I wish I knew where to look to find wild ooths... I keep having dreams that I do! (Always in the same spot near my house...)

    Interesting behaviour from Polyspilota griffinii

Huh... I love that Eagle could care less! :) It's pretty cool to see the difference in temperament/personality... If Griff freaks out when you come near her enclosure, are you ever able to hold her? Or does it just take a long time for her to calm down?

    Mantis Behavior Question

Thanks guys... I figured it was because he was getting more comfortable with me; that's what I was hoping for, anyway. :) The handling is starting to pay off, as he's quite calm when he's out and about now. A few days ago he even sat on my hand while I was typing, and now he'll hunt mealworms...
