I woke up Wednesday morning to find my H. patellifera boy, Siri, had molted into an adult! He is my first and only mantis, so I was thrilled (and even more glad that it happened when I was asleep, or I would have had a panic attack). It had just happened, since he was still flicking his wings...

I was just thinking about this the other day, since my mantis is now huge and not as easily lost. But I'd be worried about winged escape, so I like the idea of having an outdoor net enclosure...

Well, I was going to post a thread called "Open Season" because today is the first time I've noticed bugs, but you beat me to it! Looks like you've had better weather in NJ than we've had here in Washington... :D So, this is the first warm period of weather we've had in a bit... My roommate...

Aychen: I've noticed that smell too, back when I was having to make an insect collection for class. I've noticed it with some other "shield" bugs as well... Great first photo, by the way... wish I could make mine that clear!

I love it when they carry food around in one arm! Mine only does it if disturbed though, but if he does it's when I've given him a mealworm and it looks like he's strolling with an ice cream cone! :D Wish I had a camera with that level of detail!

That was beautiful! Yeah, the hummingbird rolling was incredible... (Was it attacking that bee in the right hand corner that was sort of spiraling away?) Also, at 2:40, one of the fruit bats has a baby clinging to it (I think)! Just an all around great compilation... and that's wonderful that...

One of my roommates really enjoys Ze Frank videos, so when this came out she was so excited to show me... I felt really proud of myself for being able to identify a lot of the mantids at the beginning. :rolleyes: My favorite part of the video is the "not so gifted at the walking aspect..." :D

Huh... I love that Eagle could care less! :) It's pretty cool to see the difference in temperament/personality... If Griff freaks out when you come near her enclosure, are you ever able to hold her? Or does it just take a long time for her to calm down?

Thanks guys... I figured it was because he was getting more comfortable with me; that's what I was hoping for, anyway. :) The handling is starting to pay off, as he's quite calm when he's out and about now. A few days ago he even sat on my hand while I was typing, and now he'll hunt mealworms...
