blepharopsis mendica - newborn - extended abdomen

That just looks like a very full abdomen to me. Maybe it's because he's being a pig?

    Look What I Found :)

It would be easy for M. caffra to establish itself in most States. They've become established in New Zealand already and are outcompeting native mantids there. M. caffra is very interesting since they're different than most mantis species. Their hatching is un-synchronized occasionally, so if...

    Idologrl

Received a very wonderfully packed P. wahlbergii ootheca from her. Shipping was very prompt and communication was very good too! The ootheca hatched a bunch of nymphs a couple weeks later which I'm very happy about : ) I chat with Crystal often and she is very dedicated to her mantises and...

    P. wahlbergii - Mated, but ooth did not hatch

Infertile eggs inside females still look like that (though the ones I saw were actually more green, might depends on species too). I unfortunately found that out when a mouse chewed its way into my gravid Rhombodera enclosure :/

    P. wahlbergii - Mated, but ooth did not hatch

How long was she connected and for how many times? There's a chance that the male just doesn't do a good job, I very rarely have that happen as well.

MY HIERODULA NYMPHS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

I raised mine at 60% indoor humidity and around 80 degF indoor room temperature. Misted and fed every 3 days with D. melanogaster, losses were quite minimal. And yes.. the oothecas seem to take forever to hatch. How exactly do they die? Are their abdomens full? I had an issue with S...

Looking for R. stalli, P. wahlbergii, G. gongylodes, I. diabolica males

I have several nice species of mantises in culture and can offer a nice trade of them (H. coronatus, R. valida, S. viridis, P. spurca, P. affinis, there's many more) for the males. The males need to arrive in good shape (sometimes older adult males deteriorate very fast due to shipping stress...

fell after molting!! please help help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can take a couple days for her to regain her strength if the molt was really stressful. Make sure she stays hanging upside down (on her own accord would be better). If she can't upside down by herself, try to at least let her hang at an angle, that way her legs will harden correctly. I've let...

12 Different species for sale! Please take a look, this sale is to help raise money for vet bills.

Have the following for sale~ (US Only) Note: I'm posting this sale because one of my kitties have fallen very ill. After a bunch of diagnostic tests, the doctors eliminated a ton of curable diseases and the most likely cause of her illness is lymphoma (a type of cancer). Every vet bill is hefty...

    Who likes Miomantis binotata?

I'm curious, do they still have the abdomen markings?

What the heck is this ?

Are you positive it's a female? Males sometimes do something funky with their abdomen where it looks like they're retracting a translucent thing (I think it's their spermatophore). A prolapse is when part of the intestines come out the back. It's not a pretty sight and usually not retractable...

    problems with mushroom

I have no personal experience with this case, but I know fungus requires moisture and shade to grow. Maybe strong light will prevent fungus from taking over?

    fish tanks?

I feed my bettas fruit flies. My Oscars will eat roaches, blue bottle flies, beef heart, shrimp and loads of other random stuff as well. Some of my bettas have taken red runner roaches that dropped into their tanks apart too, it's actually kind of amazing.
