  1. Hypoponera

    Telodeinopus aoutii

That's the plan. I have not seen any mating, but I have seen a male showing more then a passing interest in one of the females.
  2. Hypoponera

    Ophistreptus guineensis

Hopefully I will have a few spares soon. I have seen mating a couple times but have not spotted eggs yet.
  3. Hypoponera

    Telodeinopus aoutii

Quite possible. And arboreal species do tend to be quick with the defensive fluid. Unfortunately that means they will most likely be a "hands off" type of display animal.
  4. Hypoponera

    Telodeinopus aoutii

Oddly, they don't seem terribly interested in climbing. I have provided wood that reaches the wire mesh lid. But I have neveer seen them on the lid. Most of my "non-arboreal" species like to explore the lid. These striped olives just hang out at the base of the logs.
  5. Hypoponera

    Thyropygus sp

Another new arrival! This species is a bit of a mystery for me. It was described as "Acladocricus sp (?), shiny black, yellow legs, very spectacular! From Borneo, grows to 30cm, as big as A. gigas." As big as A. gigas? Sweet! I need some of those! Well... don't think it was accurately...
  6. Hypoponera

    Ophistreptus guineensis

Just got these in! Often called the "African Chocolate millipede" due to the coloration. This specimen is more on the reddish side then the others I have. These guys are very active and often times are on the surface during the day. They don't seem to have any problem with being handled. ...
  7. Hypoponera

    Telodeinopus aoutii

I got a batch of these guys about a year ago. Very cool colors. I have the standard green color as well as a tannish color morph. Unfortunately, the tan specimens were well dug in when I decided to take photos. They run 6-7 inches long and are quite active, but they are proving to not be great...
  8. Hypoponera

    Babies!

Outstanding!! That species can reproduce in fairly sizable numbers. Keep looking and I bet you will find a few more.
  9. Hypoponera

    Spirostreptidae sp8

I am afraid they are currently an unknown species. They probably have been described and named but nobody has done an in depth literature search to find out.
  10. Hypoponera

    My New African Giants

I take my pinned insect collection and several giant millipedes and hissers to several local schools every April. I put 8 large boxes of pinned insects on tables and the kids take a long look and ask questions. Then they take a seat and I bring out the millipedes. They can touch and hold the...

    My New African Giants

AGBS are hard to beat when it comes to impressing the kids!
  12. Hypoponera

    My new A.gigas

I fully understand the eye problem. Mine a going south as well. I currently have to use reading glasses as my arms are no longer long enough  Do you have a piece of flat glass? If so, put the milli on it and allow it to walk around. You can then check legs or take a picture. Extra set of...
  13. Hypoponera

    My new A.gigas

Very nice! I love AGBs. Look around 7 segments behind the head. Females will have all segments with 2 pairs of legs per segment. Males will have only 1 pair on 7th segment. Females far out number males, so good chance you have 2 females. If you don't have it yet,  get Orin's millipede book!
  14. Hypoponera

    Doratogonus stephensi

I show my bugs and other invert critters at several schools every year. The bigger and more visually impressive the species, the more interest by the kids. This species is a good length but needs a little more "bulk" to truly be impressive.
  15. Hypoponera

    Doratogonus stephensi

Was adding to the substrate and found 4 more babies! That gives me a total of 5 babies seen so far.
  16. Hypoponera

    Spirostreptidae sp8

I will see if I can get a photo of her with an AGB. Just depends on how cooperative they will be.  I will certainly let you know if I get any babies. I should send you a pair since you will do probably do better breeding them.
  17. Hypoponera

    Spirostreptidae sp8

This is my new favorite species! Almost as large as the AGB but a lot more colorful. I was sent 2 males and 2 females 2 years ago. Unfortunately, 2 males and 1 female have passed away. I am down to just 1 remaining female. I had seen mating several times, but no eggs to be seen. Hopefully I will...
  18. Hypoponera

    Doratogonus stephensi

Was feeding this morning and decided to root through the substrate. I found this little guy! So hope springs some more!
  19. Hypoponera

    Salpidobolus

Thanks! I have been wondering where the nickname may have originated.  I will make certain to let you know if they breed! But that may be a few years down the road.
  20. Hypoponera

    Salpidobolus

Somebody has to do it :) I am hopeful that they will be easily bred. I think they are one of the few really bright and colorful species.
