Tips on finding wild mantids in SoCal?

I think it may be too late in the season to find any mantids. Usually this is the point in time where the last females lay their oothecas and die off, then the oothecas overwinter and hatch in the spring. I maybe wrong about this though.

    Snake help!

Fruit flies are much too small for this snake... you could try medium or adult crickets

Mantids are so much fun to watch :)

That is a bit unusual, Usually my mantids including creo's take at least a day until their new skin hardens and they are ready to eat again. That is unusual that she would abandon the roach for another meal. Sometimes they will try and catch the second and be eating both at the same time. They...

    Mantisplace

Bought some Fruit flies by themselves. Bought Hydei and "Turkish Gliders" The majority of the flies were dead on arrival and the turkish Gliders were not turkish gliders.... they were plain old melanogasters. Don't know why there was the mix up. Not a very good transaction.

    Argh

You can also raise the temperature of your current fruit fly culture with a heat lamp temporarily to have a burst in maggot production. Then you will get adult flies quicker. Its not good to leave it too long though since the culture could crash.

Mantid still sub-adult or one more molt?

If she has grown her wings then that is her final molt, so she will not be able to repair anything damaged unfortunately, but if she can function and thrive in that state then there is no worry.

    Dont fly away..........please!

I had to force one of my adult male creo's off of the female after they were done mating. After he got off he flew around the room for a few minutes back and forth until I finally caught him. Creo's are exceptionally good at flying since their wings are so large in comparison to their body.

    Double shield mantis laying ootheca

Yes, the ootheca is most likely fertile since I have witnessed the male and female succesfully mating before. Too bad the male was eaten after the second mating though.

Breeding question, & fogging in neighborhood

Yes, it is possible to crossbreed mantids of different species that are of the same genus but it is frowned upon in the mantis community. For example, one could possibly crossbreed creobroter pictipennis with creobroter gemmatus and get hybrid offspring but they will be very weak usually...

    CA Phasmid food and location

It's spelled "Eucalyptus". And don't expect to see wild phasmids in california since there aren't any native ones. There are some invasive indian stick insects however you most likely won't find them on that sort of tree.

    Monarch caterpillars?

According to wiki they are poisonous from the plants they ingest in order to stop predators from eating them... so that probably means they would make mantids sick or even kill them. I wouldnt risk it

    cilnia humeralis; please define "agressive"?

I believe "aggresive" means towards other insects and fellow mantises. They can usually distinguish between prey and human beings but occasionally some larger species will mistake your hand for food and nibble on it. But other than that you should be fine.
