    ootheca transport

something Yen told me that i had not thought of or heard before. during transport an ooth has more than just cold to worry about. if transported in an aircraft, altitude is as bad as cold. so sealing it in a plastic or glass container will protect both altitude and help with cold. i have been...

    Ooth laying

i like the sticks deshawn uses, i have been using roundish branches/twigs from the back yard and the females seem to roll the whole thing all about, the stick, with a couple flat spots looks like a winner. i have been forming a dome of window screen, hot glueing it to the underside of the lid...

    Grubco.com

I ordered fly larvae, for 13.00 dollars or so, i got 350 delivered. i let them pupate, they are hatching and the mantids love them. nice to be able to get a small quantity for experimenting. fast service, lots of live feeders. i plan on using them again.

    That Stench

my ff cultures don't smell until the bottom starts getting really dark, i then have to start changing out the culture. i do not use fruit as it does smell. i hate crickets, just because they SMELL, roaches do not. my house fly larvae containers stink, and i have not figured that one out yet. do...

    HUGE deli cups

i go to the dollar store and get clear tall food containers, then cut a window and hot glue screen over it. or go to price/cost co or sam's and get large pretzels, eat them and use the container, large plastic peanut jars work also.

    Mantis wont eat

i have lost several due to crickets attacking during molt. so i also hold the feeder with tongs, put it to the mouth of the non-eater and i usually have success.

    My mantid is suicidal/sadomasochistic

i've had one do that, but it looked like she had a bacteria or fungus. i wonder if they do that to keep it from spreading?

    Silver Bark Mantis

i have had contact with her. she is very helpful on breeding and care questions. she has told me the mantis you seek is very hard to keep in captivity.

    co-ed housing

a keeper of mantids told me that if the males and females are caged in the same room, the ferimones will lose their effect on the male. i have central heat, so even if i could afford to heat more then one room to 80F, the air circulator would send the aroma or whatever all over anyway. do any of...

Why aren't we captive breeding Idolomantis??

could the breeders with knowledge list some of the do's and don'ts. i realise some trade secrets are hard to part with, but we amatures do buy from some of you, and even little hints may stop some of the obvious to you, but not obvious to us mistakes, we will make in raising ours for pets? even...

    Need Help With Found Mantis

if you go with chicken, use liver, put it on a warm plate, so it gets to body temp. then use a tweezer to hold a strip of liver over the mantis head, wiggle it, the mantis will strike and eat it, after a while they become used to it and it is easy. you may also be able to get meal worms or some...
