    Graceface's Mantis family

Grace, how do you upload pictures? I'm trying to do it on my phone and it keeps telling me that the file is too big. Just curious.😅😅

    Learn to be tolerant?

Do you think a species that is traditionally non communal learn to be tolerant of its own species? Not saying completely passive like ghosts, but just a point of not trying to eat each other at every given moment? Do you think it can be done?

    Does anyone use dubia rouches

Dubias and Flies are the staple diet of my mantises.  Now the I have ghost Mantids, I stick more to bb flies, but hopefully I can get them eating dubias.  Dubias are great. They don't climb or smell. They are quicker than you think and like to borrow and like dark places.  I feed mine oats, a...

    Hymenopus coronatus

I don't have much experience with orchid mantids, but I can tell you that I have a female Hierodula majuscula who has been an adult since July 15th, 2018 and successfully mated with my male just last week and I'm waiting for an egg case now. Again, not an orchid, but another tropical species.

    Timid or just really precise

Now that I have ghost Mantids I am becoming VERY obsessed with them. They are so fascinating and their camouflage is like no other (except all the other dead leaf mimicking mantids😅) I was just thinking, at first I thought they were timid because the flies would just walk all over them, but...

    Minomantis' mantis crew!

Hey everyone! I was inspired by Graceface to start a topic and then post updates. I usually do it on my computer, it's such a process! I will give updates on what my mantis is doing enjoy!

    Graceface's Mantis family

I loved reading through all of this and seeing the progression of your Mantids! I might have to do the same! So cool! So glad that I have the pleasure of taking care of Iris! Can't wait! 😊

    Flightless FF flying?

I've heard that it's a temperature thing. Like if you keep the parents warm, their future generations will be able to fly. Because the flying gene is repressed not removed. And when things are warmer it'll "fix" the gene quicker. Don't quote me, I believe I heard that in my bio class way back in...

    Orchid collecting

I don't know what social media you use, but on Instagram there is a whole orchid community on there and also on YouTube! Many videos and orchid species there! A very rewarding plant, once you understand it's needs! Good luck!

    Peacock Mantis time between molts?

I don't know what everyone else's experience is, but I've noticed mantids who are close to adulthood won't grow their legs back, or it takes like 2 molts to get it fully back.

    Mantis Gene

Wow, thank you @ohaple for your detailed response! I greatly appreciate it! A lot of good stuff and makes me think about a couple ideas. One thing I didn't know though, ghost mantises can change color in between molts? I thought mantids can only change after a molt?

    Mantis Gene

What does color phase mantis mean and is that a Tenodera sinensis in the picture?

    Mantis Gene

Quick question.  I don't want this to be another for discussion, but my question is do you think mantids need to have a certain color Gene for them to express a certain color or do you think they all are able to express it, but it's just a matter of how they were raised.  I'm aware that genes...

    Agro Mantis?

Wow, what a story! I think male mantids in general are more aggressive when it comes to the pursuit in general.  Other factors like temperature and what instar your male is at could affect this as well. And 3 days doesn't seem like a while, but your mantis might've been craving the nom noms...

    Ghost Mantis (Phyllocrania paradoxa)

I just got these two in the mail a couple days ago and I'm having a blast with them already! Try to spot them! They're so good at camouflage! So excited to raise them!

    She's ready to mate signs

I've only seen it in those species and I know not every species does it. What are you raising?

    She's ready to mate signs

Everyone knows about the calling behavior that female mantises will do when they are ready, but I noticed a new behavior today when I brought my male Hierodula maj closer to her enclosure. She actually spread her wings I guess to say "I'm ready whenever you are" or just to make it easier, I...

Timing for mating my Deroplatys lobata

I agree with @Synapze. It might be easier finding an adult male. I will say if you're thinking about purchasing nymphs, just do it because the longer you wait, the older your females become. I have a female Hierodula become an adult in mid July and bought an L5 male on September 21st and pretty...
