    Just An Off Feeling

I know they don't get pregnant in the sense of live birth. I was using the word to mean when they have all that material inside of them, and they kind of swell up. I figured since Sassafras hasn't laid her eggs yet, that was probably why she was fat now.

    Just An Off Feeling

Okay, thanks a lot. I don't really have any way to know how much I can cut back without hurting her. By the way. I would like to ret con something I said about her age. I found that paper. "Angeline" found her on August 23, and she was an adult then. Sorry about the mistake. . .  I always just...

    Just An Off Feeling

@MrGhostMantisGiven what I just said, exactly how much do you recommend I cut back? I have no table of reference for this.

    Just An Off Feeling

@MrGhostMantis She's not eating much as it is. I am rationing out my 100 mealworms such that she eats one every other day or so. @MantisGirl13, she's one of my wild caught ones, so I really don't know (and I seem to have lost the piece of paper with the day we found her on it). My sister...

    Just An Off Feeling

One of my very pregnant mantises is acting incrementally odd. I just kind of have this feeling that something's not right. Little things - her energy level is incrementally lower, which I suppose could be her age, but by her abdomen she's still of childbearing age. I dunno. The cat care books I...

Two Females that Worry Me. . .

I have some practice with that :)  Thanks to Klara mostly. What do you feed mealworms and how long can you keep them alive? I found a place I can get some.

Two Females that Worry Me. . .

Um, someone else on this site gave me a link to some place called Josh's Frogs, I looked, and it's fairly cheap so that gave the idea some points with me. . . I have a divider container with enough little divisions to keep the crickets in groups of four, meaning my mantises would clear out two...

    Eight Females, No Males

I don't have a clue if any of them are fertile or not. I'm just going to take care of them as if they were and pray they hatch.

    Eight Females, No Males

@Tonypace2009 Yeah, maybe. About three of them were found as adults; one was very obviously pregnant. I'm taking care of her egg in hopes it will hatch. I've also found a couple eggs outside.

Two Females that Worry Me. . .

@hibiscusmile yeah, I was hoping that was Klara's problem. She does seem to just be displaying a worse version of normal behavior. She had a major turn for the better this morning; now she's almost completely still. I think you're right. I suppose at least this means that in a few days she'll be...

Two Females that Worry Me. . .

Their names are Klara and Peridot. Both are doing the limp noodle routine - if I put them down, they sort of go facedown on the floor. They're both green Europeans, and it's been a few days since I sprayed either one of them. But Klara has had plenty of water (and also some milk - I was...

    Human Food

    @Introvertebrate Okay thanks.

    Check. . .

@Synapze I don't really know what kind of glue. Just put a hot glue stick in the gun and let it warm up just enough to flow. The species is European.

    Check. . .

Briggs, one of my mantises, laid her egg over the weekend. I wanted to double check that the way I'm taking care of it works. . .  I removed it from the mesh cage Briggs laid it in and stuck it to the side of a paper cup with slightly warm glue, in the same position it was in in the mesh cage...

    Eight Females, No Males

@MrGhostMantis Tried it. I've been trying for three weeks. No results. Not sure wether that means the females are too young or if it means there aren't any males in the area. . . probably the latter. I've had those females for weeks; they were adults when they were first found.

    Human Food

@MrGhostMantis One more thing - I'm probably going to just buy 250 crickets. That'll keep my eight mantises fed for a couple months. . . How should I keep the crickets alive in the meantime?

    Eight Females, No Males

Okay, this one is going to make me sound a bit like a desperate spinster with Munchausens by proxy. As per the title, I have eight adult female mantises and one juvenile male (L5, maybe). The females are all European; the nymph may not be. Any suggestions as to how I could find a male mantis? I...

    Human Food

@MrGhostMantis you're right, those Josh's Frogs crickets are listed as really cheap. By their listed prices, I could buy 72 1/2 inch crickets (good size for my eight adult females) for the same price I could get fifty at the local pet store. 250 for the same as 80. Not sure I need 250, but...

    Human Food

@Introvertebrate: Yeah, feeder season is coming to an end up here. Um, Klara definitely didn't reject the chicken due to lack of movement. She is paralyzed in her claws and as a result is fairly used to eating pre-killed prey. I figured she was probably rejecting it for the same reason babies...

    Human Food

Okay, thanks for the suggestions. So I was right; mine wasn't the greatest of possible solutions. I'm probably going to have to take @MantisGirl13's suggestion as I'm mostly wondering what to do when it really gets cold out and there are no bugs to catch. In 2017, my mantises all died once that...
