    "New" enclosure design

I imagine you know, but slow speeds with most plastic stuff and saws, or you melt the material and clog up the teeth. They have metal tubing in hobby shops, for models and such, that are brass and aluminum, and smaller diameter than the pvc, if you seek tubing for the job. Maybe slivers of...

    Lazy Mantid!!

I think I'd check the membership for members in the UK if I were you, and contact them and ask if they'd like to breed, mantis' . They may know someone in a similar situation as yours, that wants to breed, but has no mate, so I'd click on the members, in the heading over the forum...

    Lighting/Heating Question

My living room is up in the mid high 80's in the day, and when it's not too cold out at night, due to my grow light. I keep the mantis' in the dining room and they are dandy with it. I do have to mist them more on hotter days. I actually had to put a plastic sheet up to divide my bedrooms and...

any forseeable problems with this housing arrangement?

I like glass cause it's easy to clean, but more than that, the reason I use them is cause I had them when I needed the enclosures. I used them for germinating garden seed, and when that was done the got used for the manitis houses :) I don't like the distortion of the curves in the jars, but...

    They have arrived!!

I just feed when I think they will eat. I have been feeding only fruit flies, to the fruit fly eaters, when I think they are close to molting. I do this so other food, crickets and flies that may knock the molting mantids down, can't injure the molting mantis'. I have a mis molted mantis...

    Lazy Mantid!!

Has banjo been lazy enough to demand you to "bring me a peeled grape" pretensiously...? :D ;) My mantis' like to climb up my arm, with a seemingly desirous look in their eyes as the try to leap into my beard. They must think it's a bush, and are seeking critters in thar... :D...

How do you size, or measure a tarantula

What measurement are people refering to when they give a size for a tarantula, length of body, or width of body, or leg span or what? Mine is about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch across, so how do I refer to his size ?

Best place to get good feeder roaches?

Thanks all, and Phil, there is a grapefruit tree in the front yard of the house I moved out of, my dad owns it so no problem there. I bought a waterbed heater right after I moved in here, but I can't seem to locate it, i have a ton of tools and parts and other stuff and it all looks the same...

    Mantid Slang

No mantis slang here, but I wanted to comment on myths and all. I lived at a 6,400 foot elevation in the high desert of arizona, where there is alot of sheep and cattle ranching. The myth, if you will, is when it is going to snow that the cattle will all go to the corner of the fencing. When...

Best place to get good feeder roaches?

I see alot of internet advertising on dubia blaptica , or just plain dubia. Why am I not seeing these listed on here, if so many seem to be sold over the internet? Is there something inferior about the dubia, or is it just that everyone likes the others ?

    Payson tarantula

I have no experience with tarantulas, but bought a small 'baby payson tarantula' as the container said on it, from a local pet store. He was only 3 bucks so I figure it'd make a good starter tarantula, since I live in Arizona. I was wondering if these require any special care from any of your...

Have you noted a roach maturity preference

I was wondering what stage of development I should order some dubia blat roaches in. Wondering if the mantis' seem to like a specific stage better, as I havent really notice them demonstrate any preference as to taste or anything. I guess Charley Tuna would be outa luck using the starkist...

    My new Indonesia Bark mantids

Neat. They look kinda like a mottled torquoise. Kinda like some of the indian jewelry you find around AZ, or used to find here.

    spider pharm

It dawned on me the other day, I was only thinking in terms of mantis food, but I didn't ask Chuck about the spider milking or any of that, but I was going back today, cause it'll rain all week here, but I didn't get away soon enough, but I may see that set up one day. Then again they may want...

    Stinger Nosquito Indoor bug trap

Yup, we know :) He probably has alot more humidity to make it miserable enough though. 82 degrees in my living room right now, and I have a two fans on, and the grow light just kicked on, so here comes the heat. I'm moving the males to the back of the house where it's only in the mid high...

    D. hydei - Age of flies seems to affect start of culture

What I have observed, with little experience, is I bought a hydei culture and about a week later the flies started disappearing. After a couple more days there were no flies flying, but I notes some maggots wriggling. About a week later I note some flies starting to fly, but after two weeks...

    A budwing?

If she's ever had contact, or more correctly, been fertilized by a male she could be fertile. Mantids can supposedly store sperm for several ooths, so maybe... If not, maybe you could set the caviar market on it's ear and start a new fad for the wealthy. Can you imagine if you got the demand...

    Ooth Help!

I bought my, thought to be, chinese ooths from a food store that had a garden center, and they had the ooths in a little cardboard tub and out where people could see them. I bought one tub of two ooths and took them home. In a couple days one ooth had already hatched out, and it took the other...

    Is this unusual?

I lack much experience, but they say that males mature faster, and I wonder if this may be the case in your instance. He may also just be the fastest at snatching the food, or be perched in the right place to get the food first, or have mantis diabetis and be building a gut... it...
