My giant African mantis does the same thing and always hungry. He keeps taping the glass saying I want more!  Does not like to sit on my hand.   When I try to hand feed a BB fly it would rip the fly out of the tweezers leaving the legs behind.

It is hard to believe that this very clear amber from a tree, Hymenaea protera, which has been extinct a very long time ago  is what encased this mantis which look like a modern mantis.

  Yes it does look like the pieces of carrots cause a blockage of the cockroaches digestive tract. You have a smart mantis that knows if the cockroach could not breakdown the carrots neither can he.
